Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at EDS?
Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers?

Take sometime to add up your bills.
Keep your prescriptions current.
Double check with your dental and medical insurances as to frequency of visits and get in as soon as possible.
Don't overlook eye glasses.
Look at it all realistically. No job tomorrow and no severance.
Develop a worse case plan.
Plan to spend 25 ~ 35 hours a week applying for jobs.
Build a support group, especially those that can give professional references.
Know what your unemployment benefits are.
Do not believe you are immune.
Develop and action plan and follow through.
Talk with those that have been laid off and those have not.
Network, network, network.
Research, Research, Research.
In all reality we have worked for EDS (the number 2 outscouring firm in the world), just remember that it is Ross Perot's old company and mention that when you interview. EDS is a great place to gain experience despite flaws.
Life goes on. Finding a new job requires 25 ~ 35 hours a week. It is a full time job. Don't forget to recruit the family to help. My wife found the ad for my new job. I learned not to be proud and asked for help, even my mother was coming up with opportunities.
Life will go on without EDS. EDS is not the begining and the end of life on this planet.
Take time and do the math about how to pay the bills and cover the costs of living.

So, the rumor is another group of EDS employees will be getting the boot mid July. The proverbial fat has begun to be trimmed by the release of a group of temporary employees over the weekend.
Can anyone confirm with estimated numbers and severance package information?

Looks like the CEO Mark Hurd announced that Hewlett Packard (HP) is going to cut another 24,000 jobs.
If there is a silver lining, it is that the CFO (Cathie Lesjak) said they are going to spread out the cuts evenly over the next year.
They claim they will reinvest the cost savings and add back half that number of jobs.

I was just wondering how many EDS employees are required to send your supervisors (plural "supervisors" because you always have more than one) an email to notify them that you have arrived at the office, and then again when you depart for the day? You would THINK that a technology based company such as EDS would have the capability of viewing the daily logs of badge swipes that are required for security purposes. Perhaps this rollback of technology will bring about the use of tick-sheets and an abacus.
But I digress...

This class action has been filed to recover unpaid overtime and retirement and 401(k) plan benefits credits for all current and former EDS salaried technical support employees who were misclassified by EDS as exempt during any period after October 23, 2004. “Technical support†employees are those whose primary duties were or are to install, maintain, and/or support computer software and/or hardware for EDS or its clients. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires covered employers to pay employees performing this type of work a premium of 1.5 times their regular rate of pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek. We contend that EDS improperly classified technical support workers as “exempt†from this requirement and in doing so denied employees their overtime pay in violation of the FLSA.
