Edward Don & Company sells just about everything to kitchen managers, including the kitchen sink. Among the top 10 dealers of foodservice equipment nationwide, the company provides more than 12,000 products to restaurants, hospitals, schools, and other institutional foodservice operators. It operates half a dozen distribution facilities nationwide that deliver such goods as catering and cooking equipment, flatware, tableware, paper goods, cleaning products, and sanitation supplies through its fleet of 100-plus delivery trucks. Edward Don & Company also designs and builds full-service kitchens for customers in the industry through its Foodservice Equipment Division. The family-owned company was founded in 1921.
During the past few years, Edward Don & Company has seen its customer base shift. It used to cater more to independent operators; the company is seeing less of this now. Today, the foodservice equipment company's customers are evenly split: 50% of its commercial business is generated from national chains and 50% comes from local and regional chains.
Before the economic downturn, Edward Don & Company had set a goal to double the size of its company within a decade and reach $1 billion in sales. It's still making growth plans, however, but at a more prudent pace. Edward Don & Company is working to extend its business geographically where it already operates. – less
