El Buen’s Wallace Mallory Clinic is the medical home for uninsured and underinsured families. The clinic is the only community health provider in Central Texas that by design offers culturally sensitive and bilingual medical services.

We are looking for a bilingual Medical Assistant to work collaboratively with our entire healthcare team to provide the highest quality out-patient primary and preventive care as well as acute and chronic care.

The Wallace Mallory Clinic is open Monday-Friday, as well as occasional Saturdays. This position is required to work either five days per week (5/8 schedule) or four days per week (4/10 schedule), with designated holidays off. Flexibility to work either schedule is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs patient intake including vital signs, completion of client data sheets and child health histories, and recording physical and demographic data on Visit Progress Notes and Chief Complaint.
  • Puts patients in rooms as they become available, with the appropriate set up.
  • Supplies information and consents, such as the Method-Specific Contraction consent, to practitioners as the need arises during the visit.
  • Maintains smooth and constant patient flow through intake and exam areas.
  • Provides health and birth control education, if properly trained, as directed by the providers.
  • Assists with language interpretation as time and clinic flow allow.
  • Assists with visits or exams as needed.
  • Assists in tidying up waiting room and reception area after clinic. Sprays toys with Lysol.
  • Straightens exam rooms.
  • Restocks items used during clinic in lab area and exam rooms. Notifies the appropriate staff member of any items needing to be reordered.

Patient care:

  • Administers injections, if properly trained to do so.
  • Administers vision and hearing tests.
  • Notifies patients of appointments and special preparations if indicated.


  • Performs phlebotomy and PPD skin testing as time and clinic flow allows.
  • Reads PPD skin tests and documents results on the immunization sheet in the client’s chart.
  • Fills out lab requisitions and bags specimens for delivery to lab. Ensures that specimens are prepped, stored, and packaged properly for accurate testing.
  • Performs in-office lab tests as indicated.
  • Restocks items used during clinic in lab area and exam rooms. Notifies the appropriate staff member of any items needing to be reordered.
  • Autoclaves instruments.


  • Triages appointment requests and issue appointment slots as indicated.
  • Considers the needs and convenience of the patient as much as possible.
  • Schedules or refers patients appropriately.
  • Identifies Title X family planning candidates and refers them for screening.
  • Call to reschedule patients as directed by the provider.
  • Answers the telephone and route calls appropriately during office hours.
  • Checks, respond to, and route voicemail messages promptly.

Medical Record Management:

  • Copies and sends medical records as needed.
  • Maintains medical records’ security in compliance with HIPAA federal guidelines and EBSEM policies.

Additional Requirements

  • Receives all requests for referrals from providers and arranges appointments.
  • Notify Office Manager of equipment, supply, or facility needs.
  • Performs administrative tasks, completes appropriate client company and OSHA regulated forms, and may provide assistance at front desk.
  • Keys data into EMR system to maintain clinic and patient records.

Other duties may be assigned.

Skills Abilities and Other requirements:

  • Spanish-English Bilingual required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide consistent quality care and excellent customer service to patients.
  • Ability to work well with others and add value to a team, including excellent communication skills and positive, upbeat attitude.
  • Typing and basic office skills, including computer use.
  • EMR experience a plus; ability to complete training and utilize the NextGen electronic medical records system.


  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certified graduate of a medical assistant program, Paramedic, Military Medic, or other technical certificate.


  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in the medical field, preferably in an outpatient clinical setting or community health center.
