About EL SEGUNDO UNIFIED

El Segundo Unified School District is dedicated to the concept of the Professional Learning Community -- the idea that all faculty and staff are responsible not only to their students, but also to each other and to the mission and vision of the district. Working with the UCLA School Management Program, ESUSD has trained extensively with top-level coaches – more... expert in "breaking down the walls" of the classrooms to facilitate rich dialogue among teachers, across grade levels, and between disciplines. ESUSD staff and faculty are dedicated to the idea that all children can learn, and have implemented formal protocols, principally the "Critical Friends Groups" that are formulated to study and analyze student work, including common assessments, individual assignments, and high-stakes testing data. Critical Friends Groups meet with the common belief that each person at the table holds a key piece of information or enlightenment that can elevate not only the student's caliber of work, but can also enrich instructional methodology inside the classroom. In-service days are planned by a diverse group of district-wide teachers, keeping the focus on not just the district-wide vision of where ESUSD needs to go, but also keeping in mind all grade levels' specific needs in order to obtain that goal. In-service days during 2007-2008 included guest speaker Neil Howe, co-author of the book "Millennials Rising," as well as Jim Wenzloff from November Learning, an organization emphasizing the use of technology in the classroom. The thrust of professional development for the 2007-2008 school year was understanding the needs of the Millennial student, and educating staff and faculty on the technology necessary to reach this highly evolved group of digital, 21st Century learners. The district vision for the 2008-2009 school years is to build upon this foundation of addressing the challenges awaiting the 21st Century learner, especially the competitive, global society with which they are faced. To that end, ESUSD is building "Bridges of Partnerships" with local community businesses and corporations with the intent of incorporating real world applications inside the classrooms, in collaboration with professionals from a wide range of industries who can assist instructors via different technological applications other than their physical presence in the classroom. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
