Elmwood Community Resource Centre and Area Association

Elmwood Community Resource Centre and Area Association is honoured to be piloting a new program being implemented by Healthy Child Manitoba. What is great about the Triple P Positive Parenting Program, is that it has something for all parents.

We had heard about this program a number of years ago, through Dr. Steve Feldgaerd, then a Child Psychologist
 – more... for Child Guidance Clinic working in the Elmwood Schools. The program was developed in Australia and has been implemented throughout all of Australia. Steve along with other Elmwood community partners endeavoured to find funding to initiate the program in a couple of Elmwood Schools, but our funding requests were denied. So when the provincial government decided to fund and move ahead with bringing the Triple P Positive Parenting Program to all of Manitoba, we were thrilled.

Dr. Feldgaerd is now the provincial coordinator for the Triple P Positive Parenting Program.

Some of our staff have already been trained in Triple P Primary Care, and are beginning to work with families in our community. Triple P is based on reinforcing each parents individual parenting strengths. It is based on the philosophy that all parents have the ability to deal with the challenges of parenting, they just need a little support to develop positive actions and to know that they are not alone in parenting challenges. We all have them, a lot us have the same parenting challenges, but are just unaware that other people are having the same experiences.

This is a very exciting program, intended to link every parent in with support, be it through a community organization like ECRCAA, or through other parents in a group class environment, or through links with other professional specialists if parents experience more challenging and less common parenting experiences.

We encourage any parent in the Elmwood community who at times feels overwhelmed, or is not certain if they are dealing with a parenting experience in the most effective way, or if you just want to talk to someone who may have been in the same place you find yourself as a parent, please call ECRCAA and ask for Lisa B. Or if your child is school aged, you can contact your local school, as many school personnel have also been trained in Triple P Positive Parenting. We hope this will be a helpful resource to all parents in the Elmwood community. – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
