enjoyable but coworkers were hateful to work with
Custodian Worker (Former Employee), Burlington, NCFebruary 24, 2014
Pros: sometimes free meals, eary release when temps rose above 95, good pay
Cons: hateful coworkers
I was responsible for cleaning dorms, bathrooms, and common areas. We had to work 10 hrs. per day for 14 days to get ahead of summer camp rush. The hardest part of the job was the fact that the long time college employees didn't welcome summer help unless you were their friend. I t made for long days.

Elon University is a fantastic institution with an absolutely beautiful campus.
Assistant Director Financial Planning (Former Employee), Elon, NCMay 30, 2013
A typical day consisted of working with prospective students and their families in understanding their financial aid and scholarship options. The most enjoyable part was being able to extend my learning beyond my financial aid work with other areas of campus like athletics.

Used to be amazing - sadly no longer
Microsoft Systems Engineer (Current Employee), Elon, NCMarch 18, 2013
Pros: vacation time
Cons: horrid management
Elon University used to be an amazing place to work. Sadly in the IT area it has been taken over by sociopaths that take great pleasure in the misery of others. Do yourself a favor - stay far away from IT here. Upper management actively encourages backstabbing, throwing people under the bus. Their favorite game is finger pointing followed closely by – more... making people miserable. Expect to be treated like a child. – less

Vibrant campus life with may entertaining and enrichment opportunities
Head Men's Soccer Coach/HPLHP Instructor (Former Employee), Elon, NCFebruary 24, 2013
Pros: good people surrounding you
Cons: limited financial resources coupled with high expectations
Visually pleasing and beautiful grounds and buildings with many modern upgrades and technology. Colleagues were genuinely supportive and provided a team atmosphere in which to exist.
I learned many managerial tactics in dealing with people and the importance of perseverance in seeking one's goals. Being self-reliant but delegating responsibilities to – more... assure positive time management.
The most enjoyable aspect of this position was the teaching and coaching of young men and women and the overall mentoring that takes place. The hardest part was getting everything done with the limited resources provided to my position and time management issues that resulted in trying to achieve a high level of success – less

Great for Young Professionals
Student Life (Former Employee), Elon, NCJanuary 30, 2013
Pros: project autonomy, professional development, extensive experience
Cons: low salary, mediocore health benefits
Elon University is an excellent place for recent graduates and young professionals seeking to gain an extensive amount of experience and knowledge working in the field of higher education. There is certainly a "family" atmosphere and everyone is genuinely nice. Job responsibilities vary with a great deal of autonomy. Unfortunately, as a private institution, – more... even if you have an "Assistant" or "Associate" in your title your pay is not necessarily reflective of the work you do. Salaries are low but again, the experience is great. In addition, the demands of juggling what seems like several job titles can make it hard find and keep a work/life balance. So if you are a budding professional fresh out of undergraduate or grad school looking for your first job, this may be the place for you. – less

Senior Editor/Operations Assistant (Former Employee), Elon, NCApril 16, 2012
Worked on campus while going to school. Such a fun job! Flexible working hours. Supportive co-workers. Lots of room for growth.

I learned in-depth features of equipment and was left to my own work pace often. I felt like I was my own boss many times.

Dynamic work enviornment with an enticing university community
Instructional and Campus Technologies (Current Employee), Elon, NCDecember 29, 2011
Pros: dynamic culture, great benefit offerings, job security, tuition remission
Cons: lack of growth potential for staff positions, expense of benefits compared to public sector
The university is one with an interesting history filled with passionate students, faculty, staff, donors, community members, and local affiliates. Being a liberal arts environment one achieves great freedom in beliefs and life style while still holding a common bond with co-workers and students. There is an overlying focus to better every aspect of – more... the university from the demographics of the student body to the environmental impact of the markers used for white boards. It's that focus that requires the creativity of each staff and faculty member and the freedom from managerial confines to flourish. – less
