Stable work environment and good team to work with
Senior Desktop Support (Former Employee), New York, NYNovember 20, 2013
Pros: friendly and helpful team of technicians, as well as being knowledgable
Cons: extensive hours at work, some low level management issues, and a terrible commute
Work environment was good, but there was a constant flux in the staffing that was needed due to budgetary issues.
High amount of work throughout the day, especially on Win 7 project I was on. Was very understaffed and had high amount of hours for this.
Management was in a state of flux due to reorganization, but overall the management staff was good at the mid and upper level.
My co-workers were one of the main things that made the day to day work enjoyable.
The hardest parts of the day were the commute in and out of NYC. On average, the commute was 4 hours total. There was no time to spend with wife and two small sons. Also having another child would add to this. The other part that was difficult was having the staffing for the Win7 project constantly changing and becoming understaffed. There were also unrealistic timelines put on the team given the management, software, and staffing issues.

GRIEVANCE AND APPEALS SPECIALIST (Former Employee), New York, NYNovember 17, 2013
Pros: schedule flexibility
Cons: many
The workplace is far away from professional. People act like high school teenagers and management advocates such behavior. Stay away if you are looking for a serious career in which you want to be treated like an adult.

Productive and fun work place
MLTC Care Specialist (Current Employee), New York, NYAugust 21, 2013
My typical day of work is answering the phones. I assist the members with transportation, assist the nurses with authorizations and assist the home care agencies to get the members the services they need in a timely fashion. Throughout the day I work with authorizing services for our members, claims, error reports and other projects assigned.I have learned to see the members as people in need of help not just ID numbers. My co workers and I work together successfully to ensure that our members are happy and satisfied with their services. The hardest part of the job is to try to get the heavy work load finished by the end of the day. The most enjoyable part of the job is hearing and learning that our members are happy and receive all the services they needed.

It offers Medical benefits at a fair price as well as, bonuses based on performance, pension for which the employee will be vested after 3 years and matches up to 6% of the employees 401K contribution (25%). It has a friendly atmosphere and a great deal of people have worked for Emblemhealth for years, which show you that it's probably a good place for job security.

Billing Manager (Current Employee), New York, NYJuly 9, 2013
High paced work environment, where I honed and gained expertise in billing management. The company has excellent hard working team members. The hardest part of the job was no movement upward. Most enjoyable part of the job was the work itself.

Do yourself a favour and don't work here.
Analyst (Former Employee), New YorkJune 9, 2013
Pros:
1. Learnt a lot about healthcare system
2. Made friends in some of my colleagues

Cons - Saying this place was like working in hell on earth is not an overstatement:
1. Bad pay and raises in pay are pathetic.
2. No chance for advancement as there is way too much politics and false promises. Build your expectations and deliver nothing.
3. Political landscape is like a mine field. So much back stabbing and put downs. Wasn't unusually for several of the seniors to come out of the managers office crying.
4. Management is a group of crazy, toxic individuals who have no idea on how to manage anyone effectively or create a productive environment.
5. Managers don't back you up at all and don't support any growth and development. They pretend like they have no idea what is going on and act surprised and taken back by the above.
6. Trap applicants who have just gotten out of college so that they are stuck because this is their first job.
7. Managers take micro management to another level. Everyone is watching you and waiting to throw you under the bus.

Most of the people that I knew who worked here don't work here anymore. There place is like a revolving door. There are much better places to work out there. Give yourself options and apply to as many places as you can.

High Turn Over, Management difficult, Long Work Hours
Staff Analyst (Former Employee), 55 Water StreetDecember 5, 2012
Pros: the office is modern, in good location in lower manhattan
Cons: not progressive, difficult culture, long hours, high stress levels and poor health outcomes
This is not a place for a career. The environment is of a very difficulty and harsh managerial structure. Anyone in school, pursuing hobbies pursuits or obligations will find out that the work hours are extensive and without forgiveness. Staff typically start working earlier than their schedule to keep up with work. Because it is the norm you will not be recognized or compensated for such efforts. This company was HIP and because they lost a discrimination law suit changed its name to Emblem but the environment is the same. HR protects directors and managers who create the harsh culture and employees receive low pay and long days. Be wary of what they tell you and many people are linked as friends so the political navigation is tricky. Will never return here. Left after six months of abuse and went to a competitor. The work would be easy to complete if not for the plantation like environment.

Well established company with team values
Lead Medicare Analyst (Former Employee), New York, NYOctober 7, 2012
Pros: lauging
Cons: long days
A typical day would involve being welcomed by the "family" of co workers. Working with CMS would always begin the day with review of all new regulations and guidelines. Identifying potential changes, contacting and working with all departments in the company. Following up with staff on project status . The hardest part of the job was operationalizing the multiple changes that CMS required on a timely basis because it had to be done while operations continuted. THe most enjoyable part of the job was the camaraderie, team work and support of management and each other
