As a technical writer at eMeter, the day begins with checking emails, agile tasks, docs scrum, and the wiki to see if any new content has been uploaded and schedule our tasks for the day. Besides doing tasks such as editing and writing, I schedule meetings with SMEs to review content and interview them for better understanding of the material.
The management is very driven and passionate about the product, there are constantly meeting on how to improve the product and documentation. They are supportive of all their product teams and especially driven to help the documentation to be better which is a change from other jobs I have briefly been at.
The hardest part of the job is that many of the engineers are from India. There is sometimes a language barrier to deal with but the workers in India are very patient and do a great job. The product itself is a bit of a challenge to understand as it is a start up company which doesn't have as many resources for training new hires.
The most enjoyable part of work is the passionate workers who very friendly. As a technical writer, I enjoy the multi-tasking and high workflow of the wiki. There is a constant flow of new material that be edited and published.
