In 2013 and 2014, Emporia State University (ESU) was named a "great place to work for" by the Chronicle of Higher Education.
One of six public universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents, ESU was founded in 1863 as the first public institution of higher learning in Kansas. ESU serves students from around the world as evidenced by the Fall 2015 enrollment which included students from 94 Kansas counties, 46 states, and 61 countries. Additionally, more than 60,000 alumni live in all 50 states and 70 countries. ESU serves more than 6,000 students, of which 2200 are graduate students.
