Colonial Group presides over an empire of oil and gas and shipping-related companies in the southeastern US. The group provides storage and distribution services (at more than 40 pipeline terminals) for liquid and dry bulk products including bulk chemicals, motor fuels, industrial fuel oil, and retail gas. It also provides ship bunkering, commercial shipping, and tug and barge services. Colonial Group also operates more than 70 gas stations and convenience stores in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina through its Enmark Stations unit. In addition, subsidiary Georgia Kaolin Terminals provides storage facilities for customers in the US kaolin industry.
Colonial Group has established a number of complementary businesses to support and add value to its core petroleum products supply operations. Subsidiary Compliance Systems helps shipping clients reduce port delays, increase safety and environmental awareness, and document good-faith efforts in ship safety and environmental compliance. Colonial Group operates a light oil products supply system (Colonial Caribbean) to serve the independent automotive fuels market in Puerto Rico.
In 2010 Colonial Group announced its support for a government and private sector plan (the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project) to deepen the Savannah harbor, in anticipation of larger shipping use the port following the completion of the expansion of the Panama Canal in 2014.
