Day on ensign rig 532
Floor Hand (Former Employee) –  Bakersfield, CAMarch 16, 2017
Every day my crew and I would start off with a safety meeting. The safety captain would tell us what was going on operation wise and issues the previous crew encountered. Ensign incorporated into all of oil field employees with a safety culture.
I learned how to work on different hydraulic units anywhere between the HPU, Pipe arm, Slips, Top drive and Accumulator.
The hardest part of the job was when we had to move the rig, Tear up and rig up. Most of the time it was 16 hour days in 110+ degrees.
The best thing about the job was the pay and schedule. We worked 12 hour towers 7 on 7 off. Except on rig moves.
Pros
Schedule and pay
Cons
Extremely physical work loads

Great company to work for but its a oil and gas company. Jobs come and go depending on the oil and gas futures. Lots of opportunities to advance with this company.

Very Nice Co Workers and Productive Enviroment
Floorhand (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXNovember 29, 2015
Typical Day at work would be great other than the weather sometimes. Learned about tongs, slips, more social skills, how to work better with people. You have to communicate. Management was great. Very nice and sociable fellas. Co workers were easy to work with. The hardest part of the job was being away from my family. The most enjoyable part of the job was bringing home enough money to support my family.
Pros
Great Salary, Good Shelter, Great People
Cons

Floor Hand (Former Employee) –  Denver, COAugust 9, 2015
Typical day starts with daily morning safety meeting followed by changing into work attire then relieving the other crew by exchanging information about what occurred that shift such as new or faulty equipment. Most employees were enjoyable to work around but some were attached to an image of how the oilfield should be managed conflicting with how the company itself wants its locations managed.
Pros
housing, and entertainment
Cons
travel time to work

A typical day at work was setting pipes into the ground to reach our target depth. In between making connections with the pipes we would clean the rig floor and assist our peers with tasks around the rig site.

Derrickman (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXJanuary 29, 2015
There are long days and they can be stressful if you let them be. The tasks are routine and repetitive and you should have a want to be here. If you can't keep up, are lazy or are difficult to work with then you should consider a different field. you will be a hazard and a hindrance to your co-workers.

The management with a few exceptions is decent and easy to work with. Most all are very well experenced and have great insignts and are happy to help in any way.

keeping up with the changing polices and paperwork can be difficult

working a 14/14 schedule is nice, it affords plenty of time at home to be with family or to take a nice vacation if you want
Pros
great work schedule, good pay

long days

Re-Gas Unit Tech (Former Employee) –  Bakersfield CAJanuary 13, 2015
A typical day I would start my days at 7am. I would check LNG tanks and if needed I would order LNG shipment. Management was knew what was going on at all time, maintained proper communication with driller and rig hands. The hardest part of my job were the rig moves, but even then day would go by fast, sometimes I worked long hours but they were compensated very well.
