ESF (which stands for Education, Sports, and Fun) has been a pioneering force in summer day camps since its humble beginnings in 1982 by co-founders and brothers Michael and Bill Rouse. Since then, ESF has had a profound impact on children by building life skills through a dynamic staff, high-quality programs, premier locations, time-honored traditions, and commitment to safety and FUN!
Our Team of counselors and coaches consists of teachers, undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary and Physical Education, Child Psychology, Social Work, Counseling and other child-related fields of study. All activities are run by Activity Specialists who are highly experienced and well-trained teachers. Seasoned and highly qualified Directors who possess a proficient understanding of child behavior and development are responsible for running each of our programs. Our Aquatics staff is comprised of Red Cross certified lifeguards and instructors who go above and beyond to help make each camper feel comfortable in the water.
Considered as "one of the finest training grounds for current and future educators," ESF is one of the only camps in the country that provides internship opportunities, known as our "Learning Academies," for its undergraduate and graduate staff members (which we call our"Team") and who also offers professional development opportunities (CEU credits and Act 48) for its teachers. ESF provides unparalleled leadership development experiences for every Team member with an intensive pre-camp training program led by Michael Rouse and other expert leaders along with weekly workshops throughout the summer led by Site Directors and other subject matter specialists.
Our Team possesses extraordinary skills in working with children, a deep commitment to the development of each camper, and a profound sensitivity to the unique needs of each and every camper. Our limited camper enrollment and low camper-to-staff ratio ensure that each child receives the individual attention he/she deserves to flourish in a safe and supportive environment. Our Team encourages campers to learn and grow, to trust in their abilities, and to believe in themselves so that all reach their fullest potential.
Our selectivity in Team Members, formidable training and leadership development programs have propelled ESF to the forefront of the camp industry and has earned us well-deserved national recognition.
