Essential Salon Products is New England’s premier distributor of professional salon products such as Goldwell, Moroccan Oil and KMS to hair salons and spas. We are looking to add a New Business Development Manager based in Connecticut to our driven sales team. If you join us at ESP, your energies will be focused on expanding and building relationships by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing new business relationships within an identified territory. ESP has a passion for the professional salon industry and is seeking to drive new business through demonstrating the value of ESP product lines and building the distributor relationship.


  • Using internal and external resources identify potential customers within market, new opportunities and competitive advantages for ESP
  • Use creative, technical and personal skills to win new business and lay the foundation to long-term business relationships
  • Prepare new business proposals, meet with new customers, negotiate and close deals
  • Develop customer presentations and proposals
  • Transition new business to territory DSC. Serves as initial liaison between Salon Owner and DSC
  • Monitors and evaluates the activities and products of the competition
  • Achieve projected new business volume targets
  • Conduct customer reviews
  • Provide daily recap to Director of Sales
  • Provide monthly goal results to Director of Sales


  • Minimum 5 – 7 years sales experience with products and/or services within health and beauty, consumer or packaged product industries
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, recruit, and manage new customers within territory
  • Experience building and maintaining high-level customer (Salon Owner/Business Manager)
  • Strong presentation, sales, and negotiation skills; ability to close high value and high profile deals
  • Ability to retain large amounts of product and manufacturer knowledge
  • Strong listening, communication and time management skills
  • Proven track record of success in a commissioned environment
  • Strong ownership and bias for action; ability to internalize goals and work independently to create appropriate action plans for those goals
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to analyze issues and create appropriate tactical plans using internal and external resources
  • Comfort working with a broad range of technology tools, proficiency in all Microsoft Office products, familiarity with iPad applications desirable
  • Significant in territory travel
