beware when the firm is not doing well
Senior Associate, Tax Practice (Former Employee) –  New York, NYApril 27, 2017
very good work environment but can get very competitive and cut throat, especially during trimmings. the firm over-hired and had some aggressive growth agenda that with Trump's election has been undercut.

Lot to learn and grow your career
Senior Manager (Current Employee) –  New JerseyApril 27, 2017
Great place to begin you career and learn lot about different business practices, industries, people styles. As an individiual you will learn to respond to pressure situations, cultivate ability to solve new challenges, flex your working style. Also potential to travel and see new places. Long term opportunity may be a partner or executive director if you are cut out for that role or look for any industry position

Tax Accountant, Financial Services Office (Former Employee) –  Philadelphia, PAApril 26, 2017
There was a large disconnect between the partner level and the manager and lower level. No work/life balance, even though it was a "selling" point for the job.

Very demanding and stressful environment and would not recommend if you have a family. Your schedule is never guaranteed and can change at any minute.

Overall a good place to work at, however, it's very corporate america in terms of job culture. Also, hours can be very long and on weekends especially during busy season

Smart, hard working folks. Will learn a lot and be challenged. Hard work with pay off but burnout is inevitable. Culturally not ideal. Company is very hierarchical, non-friendly and management expects you to be at the beck and call

Experienced Audit Associate (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAApril 25, 2017
Great place to learn technical and interpersonal skills. Work life balance is often challenging and you have to be committed to working long hours. The upside is that advancement potential is very good.

Executive Assistant to 5 Partners (Former Employee) –  New York, NYApril 25, 2017
One of the greatest companies offering personable, skilled management, 100% work/life balance. A typical day at work would consist of day to day support to Partners, project management work and ad hoc duties as requested. The most enjoyable part of my job was team orientated atmosphere as well as the culture.
Pros
Opportunity for growth
Cons
none

Stay with this organization as long as you can. The pay may not be the best, but once you leave, the rewards will payoff without a doubt. EY does a very good job at selecting everyone that comes into their organization and they do a very good job!

Big company Issues
Senior Consultant (Current Employee) –  New York, NYApril 20, 2017
If you enjoy working for highly political, beaurocratic, rank driven, corporations while accomplishing nothing, EY and FSO Digital Advisory would be a great job.

They keep partners who berate employees in the new sexy open office plan space. Your name is largely unknown, you're sorted by utilization on an excel sheet and then given gift very bonuses based on that. Bonuses for a senior at the highest rating are about 2% a year for your hard work.

Poor place to work
Assurance Associate (Current Employee) –  Dallas, TXApril 20, 2017
The company culture is considered to work hard and play hard and does its best to proclaim this. However, in practice, it is all work and no play. The work is very challenging and the environment is a rapidly changing one. There is very little appreciation for the amount of work and hours you put in. If you are willing to work long hours for the same amount of pay elsewhere with the potential to climb the ranks and make a lot this would be a good place for you. However, if you need work life balance, you will be hard fought to find that here. That being said, things change on a team by team basis, so this may just be my team making things hard as I have heard other teams like their work.
Pros
18 days PTO
Cons
Hard to take all 18 days. Busy season. little appreciation

Sr. Financial Planner at Ernst & Young (Current Employee) –  Secaucus, NJApril 19, 2017
as a financial planners at EY...you're typically very busy with multiple client engagements combining planning duties with preparing
plan documents and reports..

this is the fastest growing sector within EY and as such is very taxing on time without the balance of appropriate reward

the turnover rate is unfortunately pretty high...most people are hired as contractors and after training and experience can apply for f/t positions but must be prepared to work a minimum 44 hours /week and some overtime as needed

adrenaline junkies fit right in
Pros
you learn a lot about financial planning
Cons
stressful and the pay isn't necessarily comparable similar industries
