Risk Advisory Staff, Financial Services Office (Former Employee) –  Des Moines, IAMay 9, 2017
Minimal coaching provided with the expectation that everyone should be a star performer. No standards regarding documentation. Every senior has different preferences regarding how something should be done. Work life balance is another fancy term but then no Big 4 job role can guarantee you this.
Pros
Good for undergraduate students straight out of college, Great benefits for employees, Constant travel lets you gather frequent flyer miles and hotel points
Cons
Long work hours, lot of office politics

Too much travel
Data Analysis Manager (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAMay 9, 2017
It's one of the big four accounting firm. Working there as consultant means 80% of travel a year and you can have projects in different industries. Firm support people flexibility and growth.

International Tax/Banking & Capital Markets Senior (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMay 9, 2017
Although the environment can be stressful and demanding, EY is a great firm to work for and they really do care about your growth and learning in your career and with the firm.

If you work in the operations group, you get treated like dirt.
Operations (Current Employee) –  Seattle, WAMay 8, 2017
The operations employees get treated as if you are anyone's secretary at any given moment. The firm only cares about the client serving employees and their career growth. No clear room for advancement of you aren't client serving. Zero company culture, and the office is depressing.
Pros
Pension? Downtown location
Cons
No office culture, operations is treated poorly, no room to move up, pompous parterns that want to brag about how rich they are

Fun place to work.
Financial Analyst (Former Employee) –  Lyndhurst, NJMay 7, 2017
Though I worked in back-office reporting, I'm sure the auditors on the front lines tell a different story. I had a great time working at E&Y and enjoyed the people I worked with and worked for. Salary and benefits were acceptable.
Pros
Great working environment, decent salary and benefits
Cons

Demanding, but fair with great benefits
Director (Former Employee) –  New York, NYMay 6, 2017
EY, like all global accounting firms, is a high pressure environment. However, they do have excellent benefits, and the promotion process is fair. High performers are recognized and rewarded. Not recommended for individuals who want "work-life balance."
Pros
Great benefits, talented colleagues
Cons
High stress, demanding

Assurance Associate (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CAMay 2, 2017
Great experiences but lacking in key areas. After discussing the experiences my colleagues had received at other firms I felt like I was missing out on valuable learning and coaching while at EY.
Pros
Great way to jumpstart your career.
Cons
Didn't feel valued as an individual.

Nice place for younger employees
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) –  GeorgiaMay 2, 2017
Nice people & facilities. Offices very new & modern. Everyone very helpful to new hires. Lots of churn in employees though. They are hiring a lot of kids right out of college. They are also letting go a lot of older staff. Audit team members are typically given a laptop and told that is their "office." They will be expected to do most of their work at the client site. Tax team members will have extremely intensive work periods followed by relative calm weeks. If you are looking for an administrative or staff type position dont bother as they are starting to outsource all of those type positions. Especially if you are north of 35 or so...
Pros
Nice office & people. Managers usually very approachable.
Cons
Somewhat age-ist hiring.

EY is a great place to start your career, but the assurance practice works a lot, and the higher you rise, the less balance you have. Good benefits and raises.

Assistant Director (Former Employee) –  Secaucus, NJApril 30, 2017
Spent 11 years at this firm. Unless you are from JPMC, India, or plan on moving to Alpharetta your opportunities for advancement are limited. Rumor has it that there are good things in the works to correct this.

Senior Associate, Tax Practice (Former Employee) –  New York, NYApril 27, 2017
very good work environment but can get very competitive and cut throat, especially during trimmings. the firm over-hired and had some aggressive growth agenda that with Trump's election has been undercut.

Lot to learn and grow your career
Senior Manager (Current Employee) –  New JerseyApril 27, 2017
Great place to begin you career and learn lot about different business practices, industries, people styles. As an individiual you will learn to respond to pressure situations, cultivate ability to solve new challenges, flex your working style. Also potential to travel and see new places. Long term opportunity may be a partner or executive director if you are cut out for that role or look for any industry position

Tax Accountant, Financial Services Office (Former Employee) –  Philadelphia, PAApril 26, 2017
There was a large disconnect between the partner level and the manager and lower level. No work/life balance, even though it was a "selling" point for the job.
