This work requires expert knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques and applications to provide a clearer understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location. The analyst has the ability to:
Extract and submit data from/to GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results. Recommend appropriate reactionary strategies in response to GIS analysis.
Provide maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis.
Provide expert knowledgeable of GIS software, technology and the latest trends and methods in GIS applications.
Work in conjunction with subject matter experts, other geographic staff, data system staff and technicians, and information and data analysis staff to provide geographic information in the form of charts, maps, or other data plotting and analytical works.
Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals in meeting assigned tasks and activities.
This analyst position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Science or a Bachelor’s degree directly related to the GIS field, with the knowledge and qualifications for the performance of the work described above. A Master’s degree in GIS is desirable. It also requires experience and expertise in the GIS field or in a related area with additional certification directly related to GIS programs. The analyst will be familiar with a variety of the GIS field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
