Relocate to northern California and make a difference for our community through teaching parents with young children how to manage their finances to their benefit by becoming an AmeriCorps*VISTA for a year.

AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is a government funded national community services project that engages community members in full-time service for one year through various opportunities. VISTA members provide capacity building and program development support to non-profit organizations. It's kind of like an American Peace Corps.

VISTA is about fighting poverty with passion! The VISTA program gives each member a living allowance at poverty level to better assist those also living in poverty. The goal is not to make living in poverty more bearable, but to help those living in poverty to get out and break the cycle.

Through AmeriCorps, FIRST 5 Mendocino is hiring a Financial Literacy Advocate VISTA to help parents with children zero to five how to best manage their limited incomes. There is more about FIRST 5 Mendocino below.

The Financial Literacy Advocate VISTA will develop an implementation plan towards helping parents with children 0 to 5 in Mendocino County create a Financial Literacy Plan to achieve economic success. Many parents are unsure where they spend their money, whether or not to use check cashing stores, or how to best navigate through credit card debt. With assistance through collaborating financial partners and community volunteers, some duties will include creating development strategies, developing resource guides, and composing outreach and community engagement campaigns to address the needs parents identify to ensure family economic success for those with children ages 0 to 5.

This is an essential community service where you really change the lives of a community in need. The VISTA program also offers an educational award towards your next degree or current student federal loans.

To find out more and apply, go to: Read and follow the instructions, and click on the Financial Literacy Advocate VISTA. Scroll to the bottom to click "Apply Now," and follow the directions on how to apply. You will need two references.
