The Fitness Manager (FM) ensures that the club delivers a high quality fitness experience to all members.
- Responsible for communicating and upholding company standards and leading by example. Manage a clean, friendly and well maintained club. Ensure that team members consistently execute the basics in punctuality, dress code compliance, friendliness and cleanliness.
- Hires, trains and develops a strong team of Personal Trainers.
- Responsible for the successful attainment of department targets, including revenue and member retention.
- Is the point of reference for fitness expertise within the club.

Job scope: 2 clubs

This position directly manages the following positions inside the club:
- Personal Trainers (10-20)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The FM is responsible for performing the following activities for the club:

Staffing and Development [40% of time]
Maintain a fully engaged and high performing fitness team that aligns with company values and goals. To achieve this objective, the FM will:
- Hire (with GM approval), develop and manage performance of qualified Personal Trainers
- Train & develop Membership Counselors regarding fitness presentations, emphasizing the impact of these on membership retention.
- Conduct weekly/monthly meetings with direct reports to review performance and offer direction, motivation and guidance toward achieving individual and company goals. Offer career growth and advancement opportunities as warranted
- Manage the Personal Trainer schedule including staying within budgeted non-session hours as submitted to and approved by the GM
- Mediates club employee relations matters for all club fitness employees
- Discipline/terminate staff under the guidance of the GM and consultation of the District Manager.

Fitness Management [30% of time]
Ensure that all club members have access to a highly trained and professional fitness staff able to provide fitness counseling, training and programs. The FM is responsible for the successful attainment of personal trainning revenue goals. To achieve these objectives the FM will:
- Ensure that all Personal Trainers are delivering high quality programs to their clients
- Develop weekly work schedules for fitness staff. Ensure that staff properly uses the Calendar and time clock system. Alert GM if club payroll expenses exceed budget.
- Provide member service and support related to fitness servicing issues. Assist members and encourage their involvement in fitness services.
- Ensure accurate administration of Personal Training including client files, measurement tracking, workout programs
- Responsible for achieving monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue objectives set forth by the Company. Review weekly sales numbers & club statistics with GM to identify potential revenue gaps & modify sales execution as necessary
- Train and develop new Personal Trainers.
- Regularly train staff on industry updates and coaches personal trainers to be continually successful to ensure that all clients are trained professionally

Sales and Service [20% of time: club specific]
Participate and provide direct execution support in the fitness area.

As revenue and staff levels decrease, the FM will have increasing personal accountability for:
- Direct selling, including achievement of personal monthly sales quotas
- Assist in revenue generating activities, including but not limited to: complimentary workouts, body fat tables, body blast tables, seminars, workshops, etc
- Conduct personal training sessions as necessary

General [10% of time: club specific]
In addition to specific functional accountabilities, the FM is expected to act as 'cross functional' manager. The FM develops a broad skill set in order to understand the fundamental roles and duties of their Management peers. The FM is able to 'step in' to assist members and team members to resolve issues in those functions if the GM or Assistant Manager is absent. The FM's development may involve formal cross-training, and/or informal activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Personal Training technique and program design
- Must be able to adjust and operate all club equipment
- Experience in coaching/motivating groups
- Strong interpersonal & communication skills. Able to generate, maintain & demonstrate a friendly, enthusiastic & positive attitude.
- Possesses a strong member service focus. Responds professionally to requests and inquires from guests, members and staff
- Leadership skills

Certifications / Education Level:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- National Certification (One or more of the following certifications)
o American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
- Certified Personal Trainer
o American Council on Exercise (ACE)
- Personal Trainer Certification
o National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
- Certified Personal Trainer
o National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF)
- Personal Trainer Certification
o National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA)
- Personal Fitness Trainer Certification
o National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT)
- Personal Trainer Certification
o National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
- Certified Personal Trainer
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from approved organization

Experience:
- 1-2 years as a Personal Trainer preferred
- Preferred: Prior management experience in retail/hospitality industry leading 3-10 employees
- Preferred: Training and membership sales experience

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in club; move about and mingle the workout floor; review, revise, create club paperwork; communicate with employees, members, and the public.
- Regularly required to demonstrate or explain proper physical fitness activities, techniques and procedures. Regularly required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Travel: Must be able to travel by car and hold a valid drivers license

Compensation: Base + Commission + Bonuses. A Fitness Manager with the skill, knowledge and leadership will make $25,000 - $50,000 +
