Founded in 1988, Faulkner Hospital's Breast Centre is the first of its kind in New England. The Centre's specialists are leaders in the evaluation and treatment of breast cancer as well as other breast disorders such as breast lumps, nipple discharge, breast pain or abnormal mammograms. All women are evaluated and treated by a multidisciplinary team that has an especially strong nursing and counseling component.
The clinical team prides itself in providing high quality patient care with compassion and dignity. The Faulkner Breast Centre's exceptionally strong nursing team encourages women and their families to be active participants in their own health care by emphasizing patient education about breast disease and the full spectrum of treatment options. Whether they have questions or concerns, our staff provides support both at the time of diagnosis, and at any point during or after treatment.
Our team of breast surgeons works closely with our medical oncologists, who are on the staffs of both Faulkner Hospital and Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center (DF/BWCC). The team also coordinates radiation oncology with DF/BWCC, ensuring that their patients experience continuity of care and access to the most up-to-date treatment protocols.
The Centre draws people from all over Massachusetts including the Cape and the Islands and follows over 10,000 patients with breast cancer and those who are at high risk of developing the disease. In addition, the Centre clinical team treats 800 new patients annually.
The Faulkner Breast Centre staff also initiates and conducts research projects, participates in national trials and cooperates with other researchers in large studies. Other projects focus on prevention, improved treatment procedures, developing new technology for early diagnosis and studying optimal timing of surgery and patterns of tumor growth to improve surgical techniques and outcomes. – less – More from ZoomInfo »
