Clinical Laboratory Workstudy (Former Employee), Big Rapids, MI – May 15, 2013
Pros: behind the scenes experience
Cons: limited hours
A typical day on the job included sample and reagent preparation for the student labs, as well as maintaining an organized, clean, and well inventoried lab. My co-workers and I worked very well together as it was very much a team effort to make lab days work smoothly. The most enjoyable part of the job was to experience the work that is done behind – more... the scenes because I know that in a career in my field these were some of the basic skills I would need to know. – less
A workplace with both an office aspect as well as guided tours which employees lead.
Student Recruiting Associate (Former Employee), Big Rapids, MI – May 13, 2013
A typical day would include either a tour with at least one other tour guide, and about ten to ninety students and parents attending the tour. We were also required to do communication center hours where we would do outgoing calls, put together information pack-ups, and enter information from surveys into a system. These ranged between 3 and 6 hours – more... a week. I learned how to be more confident with my public speaking, how to communicate well with others, and how to answer difficult questions. I liked both my co-workers and my manager because we all worked together well, and were respectful. The hardest part of the job would have to be dealing with difficult people on tour who were either negative or generally dissatisfied. The most enjoyable part was seeing people being excited about attending Ferris and enjoying the tour. – less

Management at Ferris State was always outstanding where I worked and my co-workers were caring, fun, easy to get along with persons. A typical day at the art gallery was easy going and a great place to meet new people. The copy center was something new everyday. I learned how to interact with customers.

Pros: free room and board.
Cons: not much time off.
I met many new people and made a lot of new and great friends. The best part of the job is seeing how everyone is doing throughout the day. The hardest part of the job is when someone is not having a good day and do not want help.
Lab Assistant (Former Employee), Grand Rapids, MI – November 4, 2012
Pros: good experience, good people
Cons: set hours
This was a job at the University I attend. I had to take care of the technical equipment and the people who used it. It was pretty interesting most of the time. I had a lot of interaction with professors and fellow students alike. Learning new programs on go was one of the things I had to do often and being there improved upon the skills I had with – more... ones that I already knew. – less
Lab Assistant (Former Employee), Grand Rapids, MI – August 20, 2012
Mainly what you normally expect in this kind of position. Pretty easy going, mainly monitored labs assigned to me. Also helped students with questions about the labs, the computers and if anyone had difficulty with certain software/hardware. Was a fairly decent job while I was talking my classes.
Product Marketing Developer - Student (Former Employee), Big Rapids, MI – August 1, 2012
I enjoyed this position because the culture was laid back and encouraged creativity and individualism which is hard to come by. I was also able to work from home which was another huge plus. The only downfall was the lack of communication between employees. This made the position challenging, especially since I worked from home and could not stop into – more... someone's office for clarification. However, I learned to work around the communication issues and it was a great learning experience that taught me to how to be an effective communicator. – less

In this particular position, my boss and fellow employees all sat down together to decided on a schedule that would be set for the entire employment period until change was required.
The job had clearly defined requirements and – more... expectations, and there was always resources available in case of any eventuality. Management actually cared about the employees and the difficulties inherent in the position. – less
