Hard Work Done Right
Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Riverside, CAAugust 5, 2017
Fun place to work. Here at the Riverside location, which is a Ralphs/Food 4 Less distribution center, you start with a good hourly rate and everyone has the opportunity to make more with production based pay. Each truck you do has a different pay out. If you make more money on trucks in a day than you made hourly then you make whatever was more that day. You unload trucks with single rider electric pallet jacks and stand up forklifts then break down the pallets of products to what your paperwork says. Show up with a good attitude everyday, work hard, and take pride in your work and you will definitely have a bright future with FHI. There is definitely room for advancement and the company would rather promote from within instead of hire outsiders. Rotating schedules for the freight handlers makes the work - life balance a little rough. Management is awesome and are always willing to help. They definitely make you feel apart of the FHI family.
FHI believes in second chances. Your background is not automatically a cause for not getting hired. Apply!

Great place to work.
Pros
Pay, benefits, family, fun
Cons
Lunch breaks, rotating schedules

Some guys get favoritism only because they can push products. Unload a whole truck without breaking a sweat. Damaging things, managers pick random employees to do loads, conducting unfair processes.
Pros
Co workers, environment
Cons
Managers aren't fair

Freight Handler/Unloader (Former Employee) –  Dacula, GAMay 8, 2017
The job pays depending on the trucks you receive and the speed you do it at. The job requires you to be in some shape to be able to keep working at a good pace to receive a good paycheck, which can be high if you good trucks. Still, the payoff of the physical work put in might not always be great.
Pros
Breaks between trucks, you can go at your own pace
Cons
Physically demanding, payoff is not consistent

Basically you unload trucks. Unfortunately they made a simple concept extremely difficult because it is production based pay. In theory you are paid based on how much work you do. Sounds good, however it doesn't work out this way. There is rampant favoritism, friends of the lazy supervisors get the easiest "no touch" trucks. Meaning you don't need to get off your forklift the entire load. They make about 10 dollars to unload one of these, but it only takes them 10 minutes, so they are making 40-60 dollars an hour. On the flipside if you are not favored or are new, they give you extremely disorganized backbreaking, headache inducing trucks. They might pay 60 dollars and take 4 hours to finish. So yeah, they paid more for them but the hourly was only 15 dollars... except don't let this example fool you, it was typically more like 43.72 for the truck and someone who helps you for 30 minutes wants 15 dollars of it and thus you're left with 28.72 and divided by the 4 hours you reach minimum wage... again if you are lucky. More often than not you make less than minimum and they are only required to raise it to federal wage.
Pros
the facility was nice

bad management, favoritism, 12 hour shifts
