budget cuts = less employees to assist customers
CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST (Current Employee) –  Altoona Pa.November 1, 2017
Great place but unfortunately like a lot of retail stores trying to keep costs down payroll takes the hit. Customer service is always No. 1 but it's hard to help people when your staff is spread thin.
Pros
Nice people to work with. Relaxed dress code. Good benefits.
Cons
Changing and inconsistent scheduling.

Fire-arms Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  Altoona, PA 16601September 6, 2017
Management at this particular store is like I have never had anywhere else, understanding and approachable. The most difficult part of the job are the customers. I know most employees will say this at most retail stores but this places takes the cake. I have worked in a number of retail stores in more than one area code and this place is rough. I am not saying all customers are this way but it can be an even split most days of easy going and difficult customers.
Pros
low tension enviroment
Cons
low wage and customers

Archery Associate (Current Employee) –  Prosper TXAugust 7, 2017
Super fun, relaxed enviornment. Management at my store is great and super understanding when it comes to scheduling. So if you are part time work, full time school like me, they work with your schedule. That being said, you have to take care of your business and the management will support you. Can get a little hectic on the weekends. But its retail so thats to be expected. Great way to learn about your industry. Im an archery associate, and i learn something new everyday. Only bad thing is we dont have enough appareal staff. It takes a little bit longer to close at night due to that, but its extra hours so its not so bad. They dont mind paying overtime either. Overall fun place to work, expect to work hard on busy days, and great for college kids like me!
Pros
Good pay, great enviornment, everyone works together and is nice
Cons
Late hours due to lack of staff

All in all it is not a bad place to work. If you think you are there just to sell stuff then you are not going to be happy. A lot of extra work goes into working here such as restocking, staying over late for other departments and learning how to price your section and keep well maintained. Some management is strict and disorderly but what workplace does not have those kinds of people.
Pros
Learning more about where you work and good cummunication skill builder.
Cons
Dissorderly management

Good Place for young workers or those with retail aspirations.
Cashier (Former Employee) –  Hoover, ALJuly 24, 2017
The management at Field and Stream at my location were good people -and as understanding as they could be given the realities of life in the 'retail world.' By and large, the hourly employees were dedicated, loyal employees with the best interest of the customer and their fellow employees at heart. Working at Field and Stream was my first retail experience as an adult, and I found the unpredictable weekly/biweekly schedule to be difficult to manage with a full time profession, an active family life to meaningfully keep up with, and the other responsibilities inherent to home ownership.
Pros
Great co-workers and management to work with
Cons
unpredictable schedule, uneven hours

Sales Associate/ Department Lead (Current Employee) –  Washington, PAJuly 23, 2017
You start out by getting the store ready to open, stocking product on shelves and pegs. Price product and engage customers to make sure they're able to find what they are looking for. Help them if they cannot, and watch out for product theft. Talking with fellow coworkers and customers about the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and camping are the most enjoyable moments. Customer service can be the hardest part of the job, making sure that customers are one hundred percent satisfied can be taxing. The management at this particular store can and should be improved.
Pros
Not very labor extensive and appealing work environment.
Cons
Fluctuating schedules and management.

Easy going, minus rewards card quotas.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Cranberry, PAJune 20, 2017
Very fun, easy going atmosphere. Management seemed to hire the right employees, and coworkers were always willing to support me and assist when needed. The rewards card quota was shoved down your throat every day, and you were more or less repremanded if you did not sign up enough people a day after so many days.... news flash: not everybody wants one! Overall, pretty nice job.

Gun sales associate (Former Employee) –  Cranberry, PAMay 12, 2017
Excellent co-workers and mid level management, at the asst, manager and above have poor leadership skills. Broken security equipment that the manager refused to have fixed(locks) because the funds had to come out of general funds and would impact the stores reporting to corporate.
Pros
great co-workers
Cons
poor upper level manegement
