Accidents are why pencils have erasers and why FinishMaster sells tons of paint. The company is a top US distributor of automotive paints, coatings, and accessories, which it sells mainly to customers in the collision repair industry. FinishMaster distributes a wide variety of brand name products from such producers as BASF, DuPont, 3M, and PPG (its top suppliers). The company's distribution network serves its customers from more than 160 sales outlets in 30 states. In 2011 FinishMaster was acquired by Canada-based auto parts distributor Uni-Select for about $250 million.
FinishMaster operates as a stand-alone subsidiary of Uni-Select within serving the collision repair market.
The deal made UniSelect the largest North American independent distributor of automotive paints, coatings and related accessories, and expanded its footprint in the US market.
Building on FinishMaster's 27 locations in Florida, in 2011 Uni-Select acquired Parts Depot, adding 39 points of sale in the state operated under the Auto‐Plus brand, as well as five distribution centers. – less
