School Bus Driver (Current Employee), Phoenix, AZ – August 24, 2014
Pros: summer and vacations off
I have been with this company off and on for 10 years. I have high school students that I pick up every day and this is my second year driving this route. The kids really wanted me back this year and the Director of Transportation recommended me to drive this route again because I have had no problems with the kids. I also pick up another school which – more... gives me some problems because they are always getting in trouble at school so before they get on the bus they are doing push-ups and they make me late in getting to my other school – less
If you love to work with children, this is the job for you.
Bus Aide (Former Employee), Buffalo,NY – May 20, 2014
Working at First Student was nice, you just have to get up really early and you may get home late. You only get paid for the time you are on your run, so you have to get used to a choppy schedule, but you get used to it, you may have a doctor appointment you can go to with that free time during the day.
Bus Driver (Current Employee), Cincinnati, OH – April 28, 2014
Pros: long breaks
Cons: non- professionals
Unfortunatly, this company hasn't been what I expected, but overall I love what I do. Personally I am there for the students and I find reward in knowing that I have established a great repoor with the majority of my students and their parents. As for the company I see a lot of changes that could be made, like enforcing the dress code, and more of a – more... professional environment for the staff. Management has its times when they've been very helpful in aiding me with my concerns and in other instances I believe they failed in supporting and informing their employees. – less
Bus Driver (Former Employee), Seattle, WA – April 22, 2014
I arrive at work and get the keys for the bus. Do a pre-trip on the bus. Drive the bus picking up kids and taking them to school and then take them home. Turn in your keys and go home. Got my CDL. The hardest part of my job is dealing with the parents. The most enjoyable part of my job is dealing with the kids.
Bus Driver (Current Employee), Collinsville, IL – April 14, 2014
Pros: i enjoy the people contact and the way children make you feel important.
Cons: not many hours
Transport students to and from school and related events. In the morning, they pick students up at designated locations, such as private homes or street corners, and drop them off at school. In the afternoon, they drive back to the school, wait for students to board, and drive them back to the same designated locations. Drivers usually take the same – more... routes every day. – less
School Bus Driver (Former Employee), Hamden, CT – April 10, 2014
Pros: health benifits, paid training
Cons: some vehicles were not well maintained, i.e. shocks ac.
trained to get my CDL class B license and got paid minimum wage doing that. that was the carrot that brought me to this job. and then had stead (though part time) work with the summer off and collected unemployment. The pay was increased and there are good health and union benefits once working. Management was sometimes difficult.
Driver trainer (Current Employee), North Smithfield RI – April 10, 2014
Pros: work is independant, meet new people, work with children
Cons: managment is somewhat confused with the terminal i work for
A typical day is waking up early and picking up high schoolers, middle schoolers, and elementary school children. It is a rewarding position and i take my job very seriously. I then go to work as a trainer and learn new things all day, while I teach all different types of people with different learning styles, abilities, and demographics. I love to – more... teach but I also love to learn from my trainees, as well as from the students that I drive for. – less
