Great place to start. Hard to move ahead unless you are in with a group of friends advancing together. 10 hour mandatory days are a bit much. Lack of trust from management with employees.

Great place to build career
Investment Counselor (Current Employee) –  Camas, WAMay 12, 2017
I typically work 8-9 hour days. Most employees are not expected to work overtime or work from home, you leave work at work.

You work in pods with other people, which is generally a fun, dynamic work environment. As an investment counselor, you plan your own day and manage your own roster.

Service is separate from sales, not expected to go out and find new business. They expect you to work hard but you are rewarded with good benefits, salary and plenty of opportunities to move and advance in the company.

Highly Recommended To Start Your Career
Senior Account Executive (Former Employee) –  San Mateo, CAApril 13, 2017
Fisher pursued me for approximately a year until I flew out to the bay area and interviewed. It was a natural fit for both parties right off the bat. You will work hard, earn every penny you make and be awarded bonuses based on the quality of your work and/or level of sales. As with any job, there are certain things I would change, but I would absolutely recommend starting your career here to almost anyone.

Great Company, not much upward mobility
Client Account Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Portland, ORMarch 31, 2017
Fisher Investments is a great company to work for if you're just starting your career, but there don't seem to be many opportunities for upward mobility.

Fisher is a very process driven company which allows the firm to scale easiliy
Client Service (Former Employee) –  San Mateo, CAMarch 9, 2017
Fisher Investment is an investment management company with very good processes in place in marketing, sales, and client service. The processes in each department allows the firm to grow without having to increase headcount.

Great place to start a career
Data Analyst (Current Employee) –  San Mateo, CAFebruary 21, 2017
This company is a great place to work if you are new to the industry. You get a lot of hands on experience and really get to take on more responsibility than you would elsewhere. That is where the pros end more or less.

The company is run by sales people and that mentality is pervasive throughout the firm. The firm makes sure to let people expand their "breadth and depth" at the firm. What that means is that people get endlessly rotated through roles and no one ever becomes a full expert. This also exacerbates the problem since people take over processes and teams that they are not qualified to handle.

This is the main flaw of the company. When no one is truly qualified or has expertise in the area they are managing, inefficiencies and lack of progress are everywhere. There is no movement up due to young people taking up all the positions, either.
Pros
really good benefits, lots of place to do different work
Cons
10 hour days, no expertise to learn from, non-competitive pay

Business Analyst/Data Analyst (Current Employee) –  Camas, WAFebruary 15, 2017
Small company starting to out-grow itself. A lot of talented and right-minded individuals throughout the firm. You learn a lot and the company will invest in you to make sure that you are capable of doing your job and if you succeed, they will look after you and make sure that you are able to advance your career as you see fit.

Great first job out of college.
Client Operations Associate (Former Employee) –  San Mateo, CANovember 29, 2016
Great training ground for first job out of college. Not a place to build a career. Get a year and a half max and then find a better firm. Strive to keep connections as many employees will move onto other companies.
Pros
Work life balance
Cons
Zero vertical opportunity

I really liked working for this company. I would do anything to build the company in a positive way. Also was very overlooking any situation that would come in the way due to the work environment.

Great people; Difficult to move up
Client Programs Associate (Current Employee) –  San Mateo, CAOctober 14, 2016
Great people to work with. Awesome compensation. Often difficult to move up depending on the team. However, there is much transparency and opportunity to gain experience on different teams.

great firm overall but there's no advancement and the management is in a disarray. Typical 40 hours a week 8 to 5. They mostly hire recent graduates and teach the "Fisher Way". They talk a lot about advancement but nothing really happens.

Portfolio Evaluation Group, Associate (Former Employee) –  Camas, WAMay 2, 2016
This is a great place to enter the Investing world if you have limited finance background. Strong culture that you must adapt to. They generally do good things for their clients as they are a relatively low fee (~1.25%) fiduciary. Great product to sell if you are going for the Account Executive role.

It was a stressful job at time, but fun people, not really cut out for sales, but for the right person this would be a great place to work.

A Lot of Potential
IC (Current Employee) –  Woodside, CAFebruary 25, 2016
Fisher could be a fantastic place to work with a few tweaks. The old school culture is clashing with the new school and they are driving people away with their lack of flexibility. There is very little flexibility with your schedule as there are strictly defined "shifts". Last time I checked, financial firms don't operate shifts. You get your stuff done and then you leave. That could mean you're there until 8pm or you check out early on a slow day to pick your kid up from school or hit the links for 9 holes. They seem to be hiring less talented folks lately with the intention to improve retention as they will not leave as frequently. Many colleagues are questioning their hiring practices as some real winners are filling the spots of the departed talent to many other firms. Up-and-coming firms in the industry seem to be poaching the best talent from Fisher and FI is left with the rest.

Typical day at fisher
Account Executive (Former Employee) –  Woodside, CAOctober 19, 2015
Typical day would be to make 250 cold calls hoping to make 40 contacts. Usually leading to 2 appointments per day.
I learned that persistence is the key to a job such as this. Also, it is the easiest hard work I have ever done.
The hardest part of the job was the repetition of calling people and going through the script without sounding scripted.
The most enjoyable part of the job was receiving the commission check.
Pros
Money
Cons
repetitive work with no real challenge or change
