Jimlar Corporation's boots are made for walkin'. The company manufactures work boots, classic styles, and western boots. A pioneer importer of footwear in the US, Jimlar makes footwear under its namesake, Mountrek, RJ Colt, and Frye brands, as well as licensed products under the Calvin Klein and Coach names. It sold its licensing rights to the American Eagle brand in recent years. Jimlar remains an international company and boasts offices in China, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico, and Switzerland. The footwear firm also serves customers in Africa, Europe, and South America. In 2010, the company was acquired by the Hong Kong-based sourcing giant Li & Fung.
Li & Fung, which sources consumer goods for companies such as Wal-Mart, is looking to expand its presence in the US and its capabilities in the footwear business, both of which made Jimlar an attractive target. Although an international company in its own right, Jimlar benefits from both Li & Fung's worldwide customer list (particularly in China), extensive supply operations, and its deeper pockets.
The company was founded in 1956 by Victor and Madeline Taricc and remained family-owned and -operated until it was sold in 2010 to Li & Fung. – less
