About Fleetpride
For FleetPride, bigger is better. The company is one of the largest independent distributors of heavy-duty truck and trailer parts in the US; it offers hefty parts for buses, tractor-trailers, waste-disposal trucks, and large off-road vehicles, as well as repair and maintenance services. FleetPride operates through five regional distributions centers, to – more... stock 435 FleetPride parts and FleetCare service outlets in 45 states. FleetCare stores, which are company owned, carry 400,000-plus SKUs, including brands by ArvinMeritor, Federal Signal, Ingersoll-Rand, and ZF Group, on top of private-label and rebuilt (in-house) parts. FleetPride is owned by TPG Capital, one of the world's largest private equity firms.
TPG, whose other holdings include American Tire Distributors, acquired Fleetpride from the Bahrain investment firm Investcorp in late 2012. While terms of the deal with TPG were not disclosed, Investcorp, which acquired Fleetpride in mid-2006 for $506 million, was reported to be seeking as much as $1 billion for Fleetpride. Under Investcorp's ownership Fleetpride has grown through a series of bolt-on acquisitions.
Investcorp continues to rapidly build the company's network through acquisition of independent operators that strategically neighbor a diverse, high-volume customer-base. Customers include repair shops, OEM dealers, owner-operators, and fleet operators of Class 6 to 8 equipment. At the same time, FleetPride has expanded the number of regional distribution centers in order to streamline its national parts logistics network and support profitability.
To this end, FleetPride in mid-2012 purchased the assets of Michigan-based Great Lakes Truck & Trailer, as well as Clutch and Transmission Service, which operates as CATCO Parts & Service, to expand its heavy-duty trucking service marketplace. Founded in 1949, the company boasts 18 locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, and Illinois. The CATCO acquisition follows several other 2012 deals. FleetPride took over all of the US operating assets of Canada-based Fleet Brake. The acquisition, comprising five locations, marks FleetPride's entry into the Idaho market and expansion in Utah. Also in 2012, FleetPride bought the assets of Trane Diesel Service, Westpac Heavy Duty, Midwest Brake & Wheel, and Gille Company.
During 2011, the company purchased operations in Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, and Illinois. The deals followed more than a handful of acquisitions in 2010. FleetPride added operations in Oregon, Missouri, Arkansas, and Michigan, and strengthened its footprint in Texas and California. – less
