Mainly there for managerial skills
Deli/Bakery Manager (Former Employee), Madison, WVApril 2, 2014
A typical day at work would be going in not knowing what you will be doing. I did although learn very quickly to be a multi-tasker. There is one that is very hard to get along with at times. Co-workers were great to work with. The hardest part of the job was people not showing up and having to try to do your job plus theirs and allot of employees slack – more... you have to pick up. I really didn't enjoy working there so I can't put nothing for that. – less

Productive and fun working inviroment
Cashier (Former Employee), Honolulu, HIMarch 19, 2014
Pros: got shacka bucks for good behavior and was able to use it to purchase food.
Cons: short breaks
I learned alot of patients dealing with aot of differnt cultures and personalities. My management was good, and got alot great with my co-workers. The hardest part was just sometimes being over whelmed with customers not listening to the sales and trying to get more then what the limit was. Other then that it wasn't, the most enjoyable part was being – more... able to meet and interact with customers and having them come back because they enjoyed my customer service. – less

Foodland Meat Butcher (Former Employee), South Charleston, WVMarch 17, 2014

Cons: money and hours
Cutting meat is an art. Main butcher taught me how to cut meat well.

Cashier (Former Employee), Pittsburgh, PAFebruary 24, 2014
Pros: good work atomosphere, nice co-workers, and close to home
Cons: didn't work with me when i was attending college and poor supervisors
arriving getting my cash drawer, ringing out customers, and keeping the station clean. I learn alot about money and coupons since I had to add up my drawer and coupons at the end of every shift. Management was good just too loose no accountability on certain people, lots of favoritism. Most of my co workers were awesome but since its been a decade I – more... don't really remember. I think the hardest part of the job was learning my job and tasks. Seeing my neighbors and congregation member always made my day go a little more nicely, – less

Poor workplace
Cashier/Stocker (Former Employee), Fort Worth, TXJanuary 20, 2014
A typical day at work includes sacking customer groceries when available, working the cash register, greeting customers as they come into the store, & stocking groceries when the store closed. Working at Foodland taught me how to greet customers in a more better way. Also, working at Foodland taught me how to work a cash register. The management was – more... very poor, and I say this because the amount of hours employees were based on favoritism. The co-workers were cool to work with. The hardest part of the job was accepting the poor hours I was receiving. The most enjoyable part was being able to have the opportunity to interact with different people. – less

Fast friendly customer service
Cashier (Former Employee), KailuaJanuary 14, 2014
Greeting the customer while scanning and/or bagging items in a fast timely manner, while having a positive attitude and dealing with money from a day to day basis. I learned how to deal with customers in almost any situation. My co-workers tried to uplift everyone to be positive and enjoy working in the grocery industry. I enjoyed talking to some customers – more... and actually creating a little friend to friend bond instead of a worker to customer ideal. – less

Would not ever work for them again
Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee), Craigsville, WVNovember 15, 2013
I enjoyed working with most of the people I worked with, however head managers were very cold and disrespectful of lower employees. They were the bosses and they made sure you knew it daily, by yelling at employees on a daily basis and just not really having a caring demeanor with the employees that actually ran the company.

A fun workplace
Cashier (Former Employee), Mililani Town, HINovember 15, 2013
Pros: benefits, job environment
Cons: room to advance
Foodland was a decent place to work. The management made the job fun, and always enjoyed an opportunity for an employee to learn a new skill.
I learned about front ending and presentation of product.
My coworkers were all fun. Most were in the early years of their college.

Great Atmosphere and Co-Workers
Cashier/Office Clerk (Former Employee), Arab, ALOctober 11, 2013
As a Cashier you would arrive to work and get your tray. You would count it and get ready to open your register. Open your register and being checking out customers. You would keep your work space clean and help customers find things throughout the store. All of my co-workers were nice and we had great relationships.

replenishment, stocker, deli, etc. (Former Employee), Beaver, PASeptember 18, 2013
Pros: nice atmosphere.
Cons: holiday parties, holiday benfits. very understanding work schedule.
i had a different schedule everyday, some days i made pizza or fish. some days i woud stock things that were getting low. some days i would cut lunchmeats and cheeses. i learned for my first real experiance how to deal with the public. i had many compliments and requests from my customers to serve them. i always feel a smile is the best welcome. the – more... management worked very well with my schedule. at the time years ago i had 3 small children. the coworkers were very very friendly! there was nothing hard about this job to me. i loved keeping things stocked and rotated and neat. – less

Nice Starting job
Carry-Out (Former Employee), Sissonville, WVAugust 9, 2013
typical day was like any other day at work, but didn't learn much at all. Management was decent but could have been better. Co- workers were great in guidance and friendly. Hours that are received are misserable in my eyes.
