Nice place to work , you can learn a lot , if you are open.
Manufacturing Planning Specialist (Former Employee), Chicago, IL –
Pros: good pay
Cons: long hours, in assembly- hot enviroment.
Hard work , many hours, large turn over of management .
You can learn a lot if you are open to it and not thin skinned .

Used to have great benifits for salaried personal , not now!
Good co-workers , good people to work with. Hardest part , long hours doesn't balance pay for salaried personal. Best part "some"
managers let you learn and guide you.

Assembly line work, were you are surrounded by all kinds of people. Most of the work was easy, the amount of people and there differances. This is were you really learn people, different races, back grounds, clicks, and moods. Everything you would need to learn about people and why they do what they do.

productive days and manageable work load
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee), Toronto, ON –
Pros: free lunches and coffee
Cons: sometimes, longer hours
A typical way would be when my manager gives me a list of tasks he would want me to complete by the end of the shift on top of the other daily tasks I would already have. I learned to be more organized, reliable and most loyal employee. Considering the amount of trust and dependency on myself and the on-time completion of tasks that my manager had respected – more...  of me I made sure that I fulfill his trusts and complete my duty as his assistant. The hardest part of the job was to get a hold of clients from years ago, they have either changed their numbers or moved away. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that I am trusted upon and that is why I am given a list of tasks to complete. – less

Demanding workplace but driving the company provided car makes it worth it.
Marketing (Former Employee), Cincinnati, OH –
Pros: flexible work schedules, great compensation and benefits
Cons: frequent travel, volatile industry
The typical day includes analyzing dealer sales trends and matching wholesale availability with dealerships in your zone.

I learned how to develop a persuasive sales pitch and interact with independently wealthy business owners.

There was a lot of movement in management at the Cincinnati Region during my tenure, however, the ones who directly oversaw – more...  my efforts were great mentors and very capable.

My coworkers were successful and did their jobs well, although due to frequent layoffs it was not a cohesive group.

The hardest part of the job was meeting the demands of the job while downsizing the office and laying off resources.

The most enjoyable part of the job was driving a new Ford every four months. – less

Lean organization with in-plant fitness facilities.
INDUSTRIAL ELECTRICIAN (Former Employee), Hapeville, GA –
Pros: good benefits and job security.
Cons: short breaks and mandatory overtime.
The Ford Atlanta Assembly Plant was rewarded for being the leanest manufacturing facility in North America. Employees took their jobs serious and had pride in the finish product. The plant ran two shifts with two 30 minute breaks and a third break, which was dependent on hours of production per shift. About two thousand people were employed at Atlanta – more...  Assembly until October 2006, when the plant stops manufacturing the Taurus/Sables.

I was an electrician at Ford as I came through their apprenticeship program. I learned how to install and repair automation systems such as conveyors, lifts, and robots. I also learned how to perform industrial electrician duties. Along with these responsibilities were conducting preventive maintenance. Each department was divided into small work groups and supervisors managed certain groups within their area. Time is money in manufacturing, and every second the line is not moving is money lost by the company.

Each job depended on the other to make a quality product. Although there were 2,000 employees, the brotherhood was unbelievably close amongst the co-workers. This culture was necessary to make quality job #1. The hardest part of the job was producing six-sigma quality within a 45 seconds cycle time. The most enjoyable thing was the solidarity amongst my Ford family. – less

Assembler/Utility Person Dearborn Assembly (Former Employee), Dearborn, MI –
Pros: close to home/good pay and overtime
Cons: long hours on my feet
Was an hourly employee worked on the assembly line. Learned all the jobs on the line and ended up becoming the tag relief person and it just got better from there. Learned jobs as fast as I could and became more of an asset to my supervisors. I enjoyed the overtime and the pay. There was nothing hard about that.

Assembly Worker/Off Buck Welder (Former Employee), Norfolk, VA –
Pros: pay, benefits, stability
Cons: closed plant, lost jobs, benefits, partial salary.
This company was the best place to work. I really enjoyed working for this company but they were very unfair to ask people to pick up at the last minute and leave the only home they knew to go to Detroit! Then they only gave you part of one year's salary and benefits! I lost everything and it's hard to start over!
