About Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center

Covenant Health has made a pact to provide good health to the good people of Tennessee. The not-for-profit health care system, established in 1996, provides a variety of medical services through seven acute care hospitals, a psychiatric hospital and a number of specialty outpatient centers offering geriatrics, pediatric care, cancer services, weight – more... management, and diagnostics. Covenant Health also operates home health and hospice agencies and a physician practice management company. Covenant Health provides staffing and medical management services to its affiliated facilities, and to make itself a really well-rounded health care provider, it operates the Covenant Health Federal Credit Union.

Covenant Health was founded through the merger of Fort Sanders Health System and MMC HealthCare System. The health system expanded over the years through acquisitions and new facility construction. It completed the $115 million construction of a replacement facility for its Fort Sanders Sevier Hospital in early 2010; the new complex is named LeConte Medical Center.

Also in 2010, Covenant Health acquired Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System (MHHS), a local, not-for-profit community hospital, expanding Covenant Health's reach to another eight counties in the area. MHHS acquired the system to bolster its financial resources and improve and expand its facilities and medical services.

When it comes to services, there are very few the hospital system does not offer. Some of its specialties include diabetes care, psychology, neurointerventional radiology, and extensive cancer care. For those needing more time than usual in the hospital, Covenant Health offers long-term care at LeConte Medical Center.

Covenant Health has a partnership with The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center through which the two organizations have established two new endowed chair positions. The two say the endowments will provide more opportunities for medical research and education. The endowed chairs specifically provide funding for pediatric asthma education and clinical research in oncology.  – less
