Forward Slope is seeking experienced senior software engineers to develop enterprise applications supporting the Fleet Numerical Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) Center (FNMOC) mission. FNMOC supports the Navy fleet by providing global forecast support for mission planning and execution by the U.S. Navy and Marines. This position requires candidates that have experience in designing, developing, testing, integrating and deploying services using open source software packages under an agile development methodology. The GIS services are deployed on the JBoss application server which uses Geoserver to expose Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant services to clients. The OGC services enable METOC data to be rendered on a 3D map as well as Google Earth. The ideal candidate will have experience with meteorological and oceanographic weather models, geospatial service development and the ability to integrate and deploy these services in either an application server or on an enterprise service bus (ESB) environment. This location for this position is either San Diego or Monterey, CA.

Required qualifications:

  • Contract specifies U.S. citizenship
  • Candidates must have and active Secret clearance or be able to obtain one within 6 months
  • Candidates must possess BS in computer science, software/computer engineering, or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience developing enterprise Java J2EE applications
  • At least 3 years developing applications in an agile environment
  • At least 3 years working with integrating and using open source projects
  • Excellent communications skills, attitude and aptitude for learning in a team environment

Highly preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with METOC data, including: forecast models, text products, satellite imagery
  • Experience developing software with Geoserver
  • Experience architecting services for deployment on JBoss
  • Experience with geographic information system (GIS) development or OGC standards
  • Experience developing Google Web Toolkit or Swing front-end applications
  • Experience using the Ozone Widget Framework
  • Experience using Hibernate to develop data access layer software

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience developing UML artifacts (use cases and sequence diagrams)
  • Experience developing applications for the Department of Defense

JBoss AS, JBoss ESB, Spring, Apache open source projects, Eclipse, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Sencha GXT (Google Web Toolkit), Ozone Widget Framework (OWF), Linux OS, Subversion
