Run!!!
Youth care specialist (Former Employee) –  Mansfield, OHMay 20, 2016
No breaks, lunches, and you'll get mandated to work doubles day after day. Management has been playing favorites for years. They "clean house" and then rehire the same type of management. You don't help these kids. The staff is so inconsistent that the program doesn't work. Compensation is terrible.
Horrible place to work. Run like the wind.
Pros
Can't think of any.
Cons
No breaks or time off, terrible management.

This is a great place to work. It has its rough days but overall I look forward to going in everyday.
YCS.. (Current Employee) –  Mansfield, OHNovember 17, 2015
Staff is what makes this job tough. The kids for the most part just want someone to show them attention and care. If you care about kids at all, this job is very rewarding.
Pros
Benefits, overtime, and helping kids get through the program.
Cons
The chain of command is great, but sometimes can get a little confusing.

Good place to work
Therapist (Current Employee) –  Mansfield, OHJanuary 3, 2015
Work days in residential treatment facilities are very different than in other counseling settings. There are often crises that happen throughout the day.
I learned valuable de-escalation skills to help people calm down when in crisis.
I enjoyed the others that were a part of the clinical team and it seemed as if everyone on the clinical team had the benefit of the resident's as priority number one.
The hardest part of the job is that there are often fights and many times where residents need to be restrained and placed in holds.
Pros
paid for ceu's and supervision, good benefits
Cons
work weekends and holidays

Horrible Place to work
Youth Care Specialist (Former Employee) –  Mansfield, OHNovember 16, 2013
Upper management does not support employees. Residents are rewarded for bad behavior to reduce acuity. Residents run the building. Foundations is always short staffed, they will say you will work a set of hours but you will end up working multiple 16hr shifts during a week. You are expected to work off of minimal sleep. Management plays favoritism. The pay is ridiculously low for this type of work. The building or management has no concern for employee health and safety.
Pros
some staff are cool, ocasional free lunches
Cons
short breaks, favoritism, low pay, poor management

Don't waste your time
ycs (Former Employee) –  Mansfield, OHAugust 1, 2013
Management is terrible. You're told during your interview you have ONE mandation day and that's the only day you work over. False. If they ask you to stay on your non mandation day and you refuse, you get wrote up. If you like having no life and like being disrespected every day this is the job for you. Hardly any breaks, if you get one at all. Obvious favorites among staff, employees pick favorite residents and it's ridiculous and unfair.
Pros
free food on designated days, hr employees are awesome
Cons
short/no breaks, constant disrespect from everyone

Poor place to work
Youth Care Specialist (Former Employee) –  Mansfield, OHJanuary 28, 2013
The management here is horrendous. There is definite favoritism among employees. Some get to come work whenever they want, if at all, with no penalty, or refuse OT without penalty as well. Some of the more experienced employees break HIPAA and confidentiality codes, do not conduct themselves professionally, play favorites with the adolescent residents, and dog rookie employees. The politics and mandatory hours of the job do not make it worth the money.
Pros
making a difference with troubled kids
Cons
terrible coworkers and environment

Great and Challenging Place to Work
COMMUNITY LIAISON (Current Employee) –  Mansfield, OHMay 7, 2014
Foundations For Living is a residential facility for youth that have seen things and been through things that most are fortunate enough never having to experience. You cannot come work for Foundations and expect to be a "Big Brother" or "Big Sister." It takes a patient, tough skinned, structured, and self-disciplined individual that enjoys working with challenging children to work here. You have to know how to say no and stick to the rules, back your follow co-workers up, and follow the Individual Care Plan instructions. Once you show them that you are consistent and you mean business job becomes easier with time. There are always going to be tough days, but at the end of a child's treatment you get to see them go home successfully it is very rewarding.
Pros
you help rebuild children’s lives.
Cons
it takes a while for children to appreciate what you do for them.

anger management (Former Employee) –  Mansfield, OhioOctober 15, 2012
I did not have a set time to be at work in the morning which was great, but there was a ton of paperwork that was overwhelming. I enjoyed my co-workers for the most part, but it was like working in a high school as they ran their mouths.
Pros
worked in my field of study
Cons
no breaks and poor management

My hours are good. Never have any issues getting time off when I need it. The company is very supportive of family values and time. I really don't have too much to complain about.

Horrible place to work
Youth Care Specialist (Former Employee) –  Mansfield, OHApril 16, 2013
They will lie to you all day long about how many hours you are going to work. Changed the way the schedule looked to decrease same people being mandated all the time, however made it worse. It was always the same people. Management continues to change all the time. Rules will be implemented for a short time then they will slack off making things not as safe for residents or staff. Only some staff will abide by following rules and regulations. Management plays favorites on allowing some staff to get by with not abiding by the rules and regulations while cracking down on others. Most who start do not stay longer than 3-6 months. Mandation was to only be one day per week each employee had different days with up to 3 employees on one day, however, was asked for mandation other days than just the one day and if you refused for any reason then you would recieve a write-up even though they informed employees to only prepare for one day a week. Each employees mandation day was reflected on the schedule as well so we knew what day to prepare for and it was the same every week. It was a problem that many times you would be mandated several days a week for 16 hour shifts.
Pros
trying to help troubled kids be able to live effectively in the real world
Cons
long work hours
