The best retail job.
Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee), Portageville, MO – November 6, 2012
Pros: working in the public.
Cons: high turn over rate.
Typical work week consisted of 50 hrs plus. I learned the ends and out of the retail industry. I loved being apart of the management team. I loves working one on one with the employees to insure great customer service satisfaction. The hardest part of any retail job is ensuring that the store enviornment as well as products and service are where they – more... need to be to generate sales and keep sales climbing. That is also the greatest part of the job, to get to know customers on a personal level to ensure the sales needed for the consumer market. – less

Very enjoyable working with coworkers and serving customers.
Regional Vice President (Former Employee), South Eastern US – October 10, 2012
Very enjoyable working with coworkers and serving customers.
I learned to effectively manage a profitable 350M business.
Management staff was average.
Enjoyed developing coworkers and business relationshjps.
Hardest part of job was the companies reactive approach instead of being proactive to opportunities.
Most enjoyable part was the interaction and – more... satisfaction of TAKING CARE OF THE CUSTOMER and building a profitable sustainable business. – less

not knowing when you are going to get off. no matter how much you contribute its never enough. poor management through out. co workers are laid back like to play around too much. been short handed on a daily basis is the hardest part of the job. getting out of there is the most enjoyable when you been there 12 to 14 hours a day.

Good way to learn the in's and out's of working in retail
Sales Associate (Former Employee), Decherd, TN – August 5, 2012
Pros: good learning experience
Cons: health benefits, no formal training
Working at Fred's is like a smaller version of Wal-Mart. It's really easy to learn how to do everything and if you work at things hard enough you will be promoted. The only bad part is you aren't eligible for insurance unless you've worked as a full time employee in the corporate system for six months to a year. Overall it's a really good place to work – more... and I would recommend anyone giving it a try. – less

Fast progressing business
Consumable Expert/ Home Expert (Former Employee), Johnsonville, SC – May 24, 2012
Pros: quick advancement
A typical day at work was constant moving and working, which was a good thing cause time went by fast. I learned that its good to know your surroundings and what product you have in the store and also what you recieved on truck day and how many you got in so, by doing that you can better assist customers. Management was good because they were physically – more... working with you and not just giving orders. My co-workers was a great team and we worked as one. There was no hard part to me. Most enjoyable part was unloading truck. – less
