Senior Financial Analyst

Freelancers Health Service Corporation (CO-OP) is a new, nonprofit, member-driven health plan with just one mission: to bring quality, affordable health insurance to independent workers in New York. The CO-OP—which stands for Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan—will begin enrolling New Yorkers in the fall of 2013. We’re seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our staff. The Senior Financial Analyst should have recent or current experience in a health or other insurance environment. This position plays an integral role in the Finance team and in the development of the entire organization.

What you’d have to do:
o In conjunction with the Director of Finance, develop Finance Policies and Procedures
o Develop sustainable financial strategies
o Assist Director of Finance in the review of GAAP and Statutory Financial Statements
o Work with accounting staff to ensure all monthly journal entries are posted correctly
o Review balance sheet reconciliations
o Complete the monthly Actual vs. Budget analysis
o Develop and review financial controls
o Audit preparation under the direction of Director of Finance
o Develop and prepare the monthly budget, forecast, and allocation models for Freelancers Health Services Corporation
o Complete the Annual Operating Plan and forecasts which include preparation of administrative expense budgets
o Compile and retrieve data for analyses and develop data management strategies
o Ad hoc special projects as needed

Experience and skills you need to have:
o Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
o 5 or more years of accounting experience, with some corporate financial planning and analysis experience in Healthcare or Insurance industries
o Demonstrated ability to think independently and take ownership of duties
o Exceptional planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and strong quantitative and statistical modeling skills
o Outstanding technology skills, including strong proficiency with MS Office suite
o Outstanding communication skills
