Financial Analyst

Freelancers Health Service Corporation (CO-OP) is a new, nonprofit, member-driven health plan with just one mission: to bring quality, affordable health insurance to independent workers in New York. The CO-OP—which stands for Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan—will begin enrolling New Yorkers in the fall of 2013. We’re seeking a Financial Analyst to join our staff. The Financial Analyst should have recent or current experience in a health or other insurance environment. This position plays an integral role on the Finance team.

What you’d have to do:
o Assist with the preparation of monthly budgets, forecasts and allocation models for Freelancers Health Services Corp. and related entities in accordance with financial closing calendar timelines
o Assist with the review of the Health Plan’s Statutory Statements on a quarterly basis
o Assist with audit preparation under the direction of Director of Finance
o Compile and retrieve data for analyses and develop data management strategies
o Assist in preparation of Administrative Expense budgets as well as complete monthly actual vs. budget analysis.
o Assist with Annual Operating Plan and forecasts
o Ad hoc special projects as needed

Experience and skills you need to have:
o Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
o Five or more years of professional-level quantitative financial analytical experience
o Exceptional planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and strong quantitative and statistical modeling skills
o Outstanding technology skills, including strong proficiency with MS Office suite
o Experience with or knowledge of statutory accounting for insurance companies and SunGard EAS accounting software preferred
o Outstanding communication skills
