Fun work environment, although can be very stressful.
Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Needham, MAJanuary 20, 2014
Depending on your team this can be a great and fun place to work for when you're young. However, many of the stores that were open are now closed due to lack of business. There are also many staffing issues in a lot of locations, leaving management and servers stressed and not able to achieve their full potential. They also do not offer any great perks – more... or benefits to their employees. – less

Friendly's is not so Friendly (Ex. Manager)
Manager (Former Employee), Worcester, MassachusettsAugust 17, 2013
Pros: free lunch for managers
Cons: no breaks for managers, bad upper management, unsanitary conditions
I worked for Friendlys for three years and wish I had never applied. Upper management cuts your pay right out of your check whenever their numbers look bad. I was a manager and lost $30,000 in three years from having money taken out of my checks. Management does not know how to keep good employees. They treat you like a number rather then an employee. – more... Their turnover rate is extremely high. Their policies are constantly changing sometimes without notification to the staff. I have worked with Alcoholics (who drink behind the grill), drug dealers (who deal in the parking lot or bathroom), and management that was physically and mentally abusive, yes I said physically. The conditions of the restaurant are extremely unsanitary and often have mice problems(Experience from 5 stores). Also, the company is cheap and keeps old malfunctioning equipment putting food safety at danger. Not to mention the several stores I worked in with Mold Problems. How do they feel comfortable serving food with mold. Management is not willing to schedule your work around your school even when they promise to do so upon hire. I failed 5 classes costing me a total of $4000 because they would call me and say, Be here in two hours, or they would specifically schedule me while my classes were in session. I can not believe this company is still in business but yet again, they filed bankruptcy and shut down hundreds of stores not counting the stores that were shut down by the health department. Ridiculousness! – less

Restaurant Manager (Current Employee), Columbus, OHMay 25, 2013
Pros: free food, ice cream, somewhat flexible schedule, 4 ten hour days
Cons: no benefits, no vacation, i work almost every weekend and holiday, no overtime
A typical day at work is mostly checks and balances!
Counting money and making money, along with making
sure every customer and employee have a great day.
A visual walkthrough of the entire store and parking lot,
restrooms, storage etc. Setup of server seating charts,
employee gameplan, plus daily cleaning task manager.
Daily comunication with upper – more... management on buisness
operations, projections and personal goals for staff
members. The hardest part of my job is bringing the aspects of running a successful shift together on a daily basis, plus making time for family and friends. The best part of my job is making ppl
happy, when we are working hard as a team to produce great
food and service!!! – less

-coming in checking all products, making sure they are full. making orders that come in, taking all carryout orders and making them.

-when we are busy All orders come at once, makes it hard to keep up, when I stop making in house orders to take and make carryout.

- Talking to guests playing with kids that come in. is allot of fun

Great Staff, great guests..
Trainer (Former Employee), Gloversville, NYNovember 5, 2012
The best part about working for a restaurant are the many different people that you get to meet!
I enjoyed very much the staff that I worked with. My co-workers were amazing!
On a typical day, I would train a new waiter/waitress on all things "Friendly's", we would go over the menu and make sure the new member understood how important it was that they – more... knew the menu, inside and out, as well as all the products/services the restaurant offered.
I learned that it doesn't matter what kind of day you are having, you need to be cheerful and accomodating to the guests that you are serving.
The hardest part of my job was dealing with the ever changing menu that Friendly's has. They do a great job introducing products, but it seems like they were always changing things on the menu and rules throughout the restaurant. I adjusted quickly, but it was hard to watch someone who wasn't able to adjust so well.
The most enjoyable part of my job- the guests! Hands down, I had the best "regulars" of anyone! People would come in and specifically ask for me- it was awesome! – less

Waitress/Greeter (Former Employee), Colonie NYSeptember 5, 2012
Pros: interactions with all kinds of people all day
Cons: a lot of time on your feet
I loved working at Friendly's. It was my first waitressing job and I loved it. Unfortunately I had to leave because of medical reasons but I would still work there if I could. Extremely fast paced, since it was in the mall the tables were always full. The most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with the customers because most of them were upbeat – more... and very friendly. – less
