About FCER: Friends of the Children’s Eternal Rainforest (FCER) is a U.S.-based non-profit organization that works with children and adults to raise awareness about and funds to support the Children’s Eternal Rainforest (CER) in Costa Rica. This forest is managed by the Monteverde Conservation League.Today at 54,000 acres the CER is the largest private reserve in Central America and protects some of the world’s most endangered and diverse species and habitat.

Job Description: Provide administrative support to the President and to the Director of Development for routine and special project tasks. This includes managing daily communications, updating the organization’s website, office tasks such as mailings, event planning, and a variety of financial responsibilities.


  • Responsible for organization’s daily communications systems including maintenance of calendar, voicemail system, and email accounts
  • Provide administrative support, including organization and daily maintenance of office, filing, correspondence, copying, scanning, etc.
  • Prepare work flow charts and timelines for projects and events
  • Assist Board secretary with communication needs to the board, attend and take minutes at all board meetings, keep records of board decisions and board members’ terms
  • Handle travel arrangements including communication with Costa Rican contractor and follow-up evaluations
  • Conduct research and fact-finding for the President and Director of Development
  • Assist in planning and implementing events
  • Maintain and update FCER website
  • Provide accountant with up to date information
  • Prepare deposits and do the banking of monies received
  • Pay invoices and handle payroll
  • Responsible for tax documents and filing, insurance documents and payments
  • Work with vendors/contractors and ensure timely payment for their services


  • Excellent planning, organizational, and computer skills
  • Highly detail-oriented and accurate
  • Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills
  • Familiarity with website editing and maintenance
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Mail Merge, Excel, PowerPoint, Gift Works or other fundraising software, Google Calendar and Docs
  • Familiarity with mass mailing procedures
  • Event planning skills
  • Calm and efficient manner during high-volume times
  • Highly trustworthy with handling money
  • Ability to keep information confidential; discreet
