It depends on which department you work in. For instance, the sheriff's office gives you sick time every pay period. The amount of sick time depends on how long you've been with the county. Starting off, most employees get about 3 to 4hrs of sick time every two weeks. Now, using those hours during your probationary period is not advisable (15 mos). You may get fired, without legitimate excuses, but even with a doctor's excuse during this time may not save your job.
Ask about other leaves....vacation, holiday, compensatory time. I'll be more than happy to explain how they work too.
