A lot to learn...

There's so much to learn it gets confusing especially if you don't have any banking experiece. Some Employees are ok but it does get stressful and could become discouraging when you're trying hard to learn all the stuff. Feels like you're not learning things quick enough. Some of the trainers that sit with you to"help you" become impatient with you and even take over doing the work for you instead of patiently helping you understand the different tasks throughout. Then you're looked at like you did something wrong. That makes it hard to focus on ALL the different screens you have to maneuver through when a Customer calls in. If you're a fast learner this job is definitely for you. Something to get use to. Trying to hang in there.

Terrible management throughout the entire corporation. Company motto is to Care, Listen, Understand, and Deliver! What a joke! Customers are not treated equal. If you have money within the bank or are predominate within the community you get special treatment. Employees are treated with no respect...especially long time employees. A lot of 15+ year employees have left...what does that tell ya??? My manager not only played favoritism; she would play employees against each other. She has a very degrading personality. If she didn't like you or in my case was threatened by my intelligence and banking knowledge; she would nit pick everything you did and report it to her superiors. She is extremely title driven, anyone with a title less than she; she degraded and looked down on. After discussing my working conditions and feelings with several of her superiors; with no results just complete disregard; I choose to resign because of the mental stress she was causing me.

Company employees in Hampton Roads, Virginia big turn over, management no communication with staff, sorry leadership, and managers self advancement and no help for training and advancement for their staff. Upper management don't care either they say open door policy NOT that's a joke.

Great bank to work for

I have been an employee of this bank for 8 years and have held a number of positions within the bank. If you are looking for a good place to start and/or continue your career in banking, this is a great place. As the industry has changed, so have of course the priorities of this company.
I have learned a great deal about finance, sales, and relating to co-workers. Historically, this company does a decent job at hiring people who fit in to the culture.
That being said, recently I have seen upper management begin to make decisions that are a little less consistent with what has made this bank so great. Hiring folks who are guaranteed to bring in a great book of business, but less concern about how they may treat customers. Many people can fake being good at customer service, but the fakers do end up showing their true colors after the fact.
Again, the above example is by all means still the exception to the rule.
Otherwise, there are some great gems in management from top to the bottom. They still run the bank as close to the community banking vibe it was founded on as they can, given the current regulatory and competitive environment.
If you are someone who is skilled in customer service, adept at sales, and can work well in a team environment, then this may very well be the place for you.
I should also mention that this company does a great job of promoting from within.

i worked there for 8 years and loved my job!
The management in FFA was too clicky!
My immediate co-workers were awesome, but management lacked team work and knowledge of their departments! People leave and their work gets pushed onto the remaining employees.
Benefits are great, management not so much!

Through my experience, I have expanded my knowledge about compliance, confidentiality, professionalism, and corporate culture. I love the people I work with and the customers I have the pleasure of serving on a daily basis. A typical day at work consists of managing a cash drawer, processing transactions, using critical thinking and analytic skills to resolve issues, working in a fast paced environment, and much more.

On a typical day you go about the normal opening and house keeping procedures before opening. Throughout the day you help customer and a lot of it involves effective communication and problem solving. At times it proves to be a very challenging job but that only makes it all the more fun.

Training lacked, had to learn most things on my own. Co-workers were ok. The best thing about the job was helping customers. Management wasn't really supportive. If they didn't like you, they'd make it clear. Either really busy or slow.

They claim to focus on training yet you train yourself in a into the fire method. Management says nothing but then out of nowhere wants to nit pick about issues stemming from months ago. No real dress code policy yet they will give you a hard time about what you wear
