You like having someone make you angry? Well this is the place. They will play with your paycheck and your job sites if you let them. The management sucks and the people are super rude.

Insured the safety of others
Security Officer (Former Employee), San Diego, CAOctober 12, 2014
Pros: paid lunch
Maintained surveillance in new developmental areas of the San Diego Airport. Generated daily activity reports VIA remote access laptop. Monitored various locations with a vehicle during my shift. Monitored residential activity communicated un-usual activity and reported emergency situations via online 24hr remote access server. Periodically walked to – more... the basement of the building when valet needed assistance with heavy traffic.
I was employed by G4S in San Diego, CA and later transferred to Boca Raton, FL and my job description was. Monitored business activity and conducted dispatch response follow up in compliance with regulatory procedures and policies. Access security systems to ensure proper functions of video surveillance. – less

A decent place to work. I really enjoy being around my co-workers. Most of them are very nice people.
Custom Protection Officer (Current Employee), Marietta, GAOctober 11, 2014
Pros: it's not too far from my residence.
Cons: the pay is not very good.
I basically sit at the front desk, answering phones. I patrol the property, inside and out, and if there's an emergency, I notify those in the proper channels to ensure that the issue is resolved.

Prepare to hate your job
Certified Armed Military Force Protection Officer (Former Employee), Fort Jackson, SCOctober 9, 2014
Pros: good pay
Cons: working conditions, leadership, management, working hours, treatment of employees
This job had great potential to be fun and rewarding but fell pitifully short. They do not like to allow you to take breaks, will not provide you heaters in the coldest weather or fans in the hottest and treat you like a peon. Also, don't expect any overtime or to work a full 40 hours. Furthermore, they have a union that will never contact you and you – more... will never see, but loves to take your money. There is opportunity for advancement but they will demote you at a moments notice. I can't speak for all areas of the company, but the spot I was in royally sucked. – less

Drive a cart around the parking lot to observe any suspicious activities. Report anything that happens on site and keep everyone safe.
What I have learned about the job is to keep my ears and eyes open at all times.
My job overall is enjoyable.
I do not have any problems with any clients, co-workers or employees.

Low morale, Inconsistency with management
Upscale Security Officer (Former Employee), DuPont Chamber Works, Deepwater, NJSeptember 24, 2014
Pros: plenty of ot
Cons: pay, inconsistent mgmnt, no advancement opp.
G4S as whole is good company to work for, however, the job site is entirely a different story.
The rotating shift work is great once you are placed on a set shift (A,B,C or D) because you can plan things in your home life in advance. Until then you are at the mercy of the site manager. The nepotism/favoritism is an issue, some employees have to follow – more... every rule, procedure and policy to a "T" or face termination, others can break the rules and face little disciplinary action. On extreme cold & hot weather days, management enjoyed hot beverages & water ice while the guards went without due to post restrictions.
My least favorite part of the job was having to ask for and wait for another guard to relieve me for a restroom break...sometimes 30 min. or more.
The client, their employees and visitors were a pleasure each and everyday. Co-workers were good people. – less

Horrible/ Avoid this place
Upscale Security Officer (Former Employee), Miami, FLSeptember 24, 2014
Cons: no benefits and they do no care about the employees
Corruption and harassment in the place. The corporate office does nothing about it. The majors and receptionist are liars. They do not care about their employees. As long as their posts are covered they could careless if you were in a car accident because you are replaceable. That's why they are getting sued by so many people. Avoid this place. They – more... have no benefits either. – less

I was able to be productive in the since that I had the time and opportunity to organize many different kinds of paperwork
Security Guard (Former Employee), Harrisburg, PASeptember 24, 2014
Pros: i was able to read on down time as long as i took care of my responsibilities.
Cons: there was too much down time. there were big gaps at times where there was nothing to do.
A typical day working for G4S secure solutions consisted of a perimeter check at my location. I would check to see if there were any breeches around the fenced area of the facility. I was also responsible for a log of the trucks in the loading docks, to make sure everything on the log matched the loading docks. When the other employee has started to – more... arrive for their day of work, my responsibility was to make sure the employees, truck drivers and administration staff had the proper identification to enter the facility.
I learned how to supervise and be responsible for other employees. Handling day to day situation or problems that were brought to my attention by staff or administration from G4S or the location I was working in. The management at G4S was very helpful with communicating information when needed. About once or twice every two weeks there was one of my supervisors that would come to the facility to make sure everything was okay, also to check if there was anything needed.
I had more interaction with the employees of the facility then the employees I supervised from G4S. Due to the fact, there was only one security officer per shift. I would usually spend the last 20 minutes of the end of first shift with the second shift officer, and the last 20 minutes of third shift for pass down. The hardest part of the job was when the truck drivers would try to get passed the gate without identification. I followed protocol and called the plant manager; the plant manager would clear the driver and give him a reprimand to prevent this event from happening again. What I enjoyed most of all about the job was the experience. – less

Good Start-up employment
Security Guard (Current Employee), Dayton, OHSeptember 19, 2014
Management is honestly amazing. However, you will get stuck with people who will try to be your boss when they are at the same level as you. I had to speak with management about this issue and it was quickly dessolved, but only because the site we were working also had issues with the same employee I did. There is not much room for advancement, no raises, – more... no paid-off holidays, and poor benefits. – less
