A very fun place to work
Security Officer (Former Employee), Richmond, VA – May 20, 2013
Pros: we took breaks when we wanted to.
Cons: very high turn over rate
*A typical day at work for me was a lot of standing walking and being aware of your surroundings at all times.
*I learned to treat everyone with respect even though you sometimes didn't get it back in return.
*Management and co-workers were awesome. Everyone stuck together and had each other's back.
*The hardiest part of my job was working double shifts – more... when a co-worker would call in, but I dealt with it because I enjoyed my job. – less

Great workplace with supportive management
Security Officer (Current Employee), Atlanta,GA – May 20, 2013
Pros: schedule
Cons: short breaks, enduring the weather climates because of the nature of the job
At G4S you come across many people with various backgrounds and interaction with the public constantly. The job can be tedious when it comes to dealing with customers who may not fully understand the reasoning behind why security has to enforce the rules . Management team is in full support and is always there to lend a helping hand.

Good place to start with strong leadership tho that could change based on site and location. Sub contract company so you will be posted at different location. every client is different and requires different things. people on mostly posted on one client if they are full time.

CPO (Current Employee), Miami/Doral – May 15, 2013
Pros: you won't get 40 hrs
Cons: advancement only if you get along with captains and majors
This company is sucks . I never got what I was promised 40 hours per week ,and an steady post near the area where I reside. My major had me floating every day and the commute was extremely away from my zone .I had a disagreement with my supervisor couples of weeks ago about my schedule and he cut my hours now I'm working one day a week unbelievable – more... !! Who the h... can survive with 8 hours a week. – less

Horrible Company
security gaurd (Former Employee), albuquerque – May 13, 2013
Pros: all the overtime you want and then ome
Cons: sleep depravation low pay
This company does not care about its employees safety. You will be terminated/ transferred to a lower paying post for not accepting overtime. This Company will have you work a 12hr shift then let you have a five hour break t before sending you on mandatory training for 4&1/2 hours before send you back on another 12hr shift.

Could be worse!?!
Security Officer (Current Employee), Lake Orion, MI – May 3, 2013
Appreciate the job but overall, the company and union for that matter are horrible. Management is terrible, no sense of leadership and other things as well. No kind of promotion at all. The Union does nothing for the worker. Haven't seen a rise in years.

- A Security Company that was told they handle Veteran's for job placements, but once placed they don't accommodate to your needs on what shift you need. Very Poorly managed company

G4S not recommended
OPERATIONS ANALYST (Former Employee), Washington, DC – April 16, 2013
Pros: exposure to another operations center
Cons: toxic leadership; not truthful regarding insurance and sick leave
I can recommend neither G4S nor the client here (Fannie Mae).

I found both to harbor a very toxic leadership environment. Additionally, G4S was not entirely truthful with details on issues such as health insurance and sick leave during my in processing

Supervisory and Management skills lacking. A company as big as G4S should be more strigent requirements for existing staff that I have encountered.
Custom Protection Officer (Former Employee), Phoenix AZ – April 8, 2013
Pros: very big company. ability to move around
Cons: poor supervisory staff at certain locations
Working at the Phoenix location, I have had a good experience with most contracts. Most supervisors were pleasant to work for/with. Unfortunately, I can't say that about all of them.

Good people
Site Supervisor (Current Employee), Cedar Rapids, Iowa – March 28, 2013
Pros: no set schedule, can work from home, enjoy working with client
Cons: no room to move up the ladder, lunches
A day in the life at my job is as follows: I get into work, I go through emails, review reports, review daily packets, run a logged messge report, give breaks, come back to my desk and work on projects, then give lunch breaks, come back to my desk and have lunch, finish projects and emails. Review maintenance tickets, do a building round to make my – more... presence known. Work the client on their needs.

My management team is awesome! They have been there for me from day one. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

My co-workers are good too. Some needs more improvement over others. Everyone is pretty flexible for the most part.

The hardest part about my job is trying to keep up with the changes for the client. We have certian government regulations that we have to follow and sometimes that can be stressful.

I like who I work with. Both the client and fellow officers. – less

Decent company to work for
Security Officer (Current Employee), Oklahoma – March 28, 2013
Pros: decent amount of ot, will put you thru cert program
Cons: no room for advancement, office politics, general disorganization
Not a bad place to work, but very little room for advancement. I'm guaranteed at least 40 hours per week, and I'm often called for extra shifts, so there's opportunity for overtime. Anytime management calls I feel obligated to say yes to the extra work, even if I had other plans. I don't know if it's just this office or the company I general, but there's – more... a sense of disorganization about the whole operation. I was once called to cover shifts on one site, even though my regular schedule interfered with those extra hours. When I pointed this out they were surprised. Employees are supposed to have 3 uniforms, and in the time I've worked here I've never had 3 shirts and 3 pairs of pants at the same time. I've tried many times to get more, but they are always out of my size. The pin back broke off my badge, and the office didn't have any more, in fact as far as I know they never have. I was lucky another officer on my job site had an extra. The health insurance they offered me was no good, but that varies by site.

Overall, just keep your head down and take care of yourself first. You'll make a decent wage, but not something you could support a family on. – less

Quite Possibly the Worst Company Ever
Security (Former Employee), Nashville, TN – March 23, 2013
Pros: i got to get my certifications
Cons: everything else.
For starts, I never got what I was promised. I applied for a higher-tier CPO position and ended up in an unarmed TSO position. $9/hr, no more-no less. Odds are you won't see any advancement unless you are in a clique. Did I mention you'll never see a full paycheck? Not once. Layers and layers of bureaucracy will prevent anything from ever getting done. – more... You may say "that is any job", not so. Take your perception and multiply it, then you will have G4S. They are legion of incompetence. – less
