GE Power is a great company to work for in term of work/life balance. Employee can telecommute when needed and managers are very flexible in this regard.

Do important work as part of the hive
Technical Program Manager (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GAMay 17, 2017
You are a bee in a hive, and are extremely replaceable.

You will touch enormous projects and the scale in which you can make an impact is incredible.

The middle managers are great and they have great developmental programs to help you get there.

There is a bit of a politic'ing to the group, this can get annoying.

You get paid well, but not that well.

No benefits outside of healthcare, match, and job security.
Pros
work/life balance, horizontal movement
Cons
no free food

An average place to work.
Senior Automation Test Lead (Former Employee) –  Greenville, SCMay 11, 2017
This company was a good company to work for. It is one of the leaders in its industry. Typical day at-work was calm. I learned a lot. Management was average. The workplace culture was casual to corporate. The hardest part of my job was getting Test Data generated and prepared for Test Execution. The most enjoyable part of the job was being surrounded by IT Professionals.

Good place to work with integrity and diversity, brutal with employees when numbers don't look good.
Power Services Resource Manager, Global Ops (Current Employee) –  Atlanta, GAMay 10, 2017
Stock market price is more important than loyalty to their employees. Even making the numbers and receiving bonus, cost cut were implemented. Massive layoff are commons, be aware.
Pros
integrity and diversity environment, real international business
Cons
Middle management, cost reduction initiatives, slow to react

People are knowledgeable in what they do and always help you when approached. Your ideas are always encouraged and there is a lot of room to learn new things.

Typical Place to Work - Has ping-pong table
QC Engineer (Former Employee) –  Windsor, CTApril 19, 2017
Communication is very poor at almost each location of GE. Management seems to be last to know, but feels they are first. Each division has its own set of problems. Upside is the pay was generally good and the work / life balance made GE a positive place to work. Flexible working schedules with the ability to work from home was fantastic. The most enjoyable part of my day were the Town Hall style meetings where there was always coffee and other refreshments. Camaraderie there was a lot of fun!
Pros
Flexible work schedules
Cons
Poor communication

Assembler (Current Employee) –  Minnetonka, MNApril 17, 2017
Assembly work is easy to learn but will take time to fully understand processes. Some duties may require some lifting, pulling and pushing up to 50lbs. Good benefits but advancement opportunities are limited.

Industrial Controls Engineer, Gas Turbine (Former Employee) –  Schenectady, NYApril 12, 2017
I started off coming over after a lay off in oil & gas and was stretching my neck out to take a Controls Engineer position in Gas Turbines which I really knew nothing about. A few months later after some really good on the job training I was chugging along getting projects done and helping out others in the group. The company has some of the best benefits in the industry, very nice! Excellence management and training. Unfortunately, after 7 months I was laid off due to cost cuts / poor market conditions. Oh well, take the training and run with it, thanks guys!
Pros
Best benefits and company culture
Cons
Poor work location, 100 yr old building, Schenectady, Ny

Program Manager Repair (Former Employee) –  Greenville, SCApril 12, 2017
I loved my work there and enjoyed the people. My manager would ask how things were going and what changes that I thought needed to be made. Making things happen and being apart of an exciting team was the most enjoyable part of the job.
Pros
Great work environment
Cons
Worked days, nights and weekends, but enjoyed getting things done

Global Consolidation & Financial Reporting Manager (Former Employee) –  Plano, TXApril 11, 2017
Employees are told that they are the most significant assets of the company, so they are highly valued. In reality, you're treated as a tool than a person, getting things done is more important that your well-being. No job security either, if you reach 60, you'll have to retire.

None
Cons
Poor Management Attitudes

Tough Go at it
Outage Planning Engineer (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GAApril 10, 2017
Its a tough time to be a GE power employee. Currently in cutting cost mode, which has lead to layoffs. Thus leading to additional work for the employees that were not laid off. You have a better chance of applying to other parts of GE if you want job security.

Membrane Manufacturing Operator (Former Employee) –  Vista, CAApril 7, 2017
They were too much politics making rules but not following them, complains not addressed by leads and manager, no wonder why it closed! If they followed the rules and made the tough decisions things would been different....

Senior Site Manager (Former Employee) –  Multiple sitesApril 6, 2017
My assessment of GE as an employer is somewhat skewed. GE purchased the company that I had been working for the past 11 years and promptly closed down our division.

Good vacation policy.
Cons
Insurance package is not so good.

It was very well balanced. Management worked with you to determine problems. You have a fast pace but work flow was steady and never slowed down at all.
