just a foot in the door type thing
supervisor (Former Employee), nyJuly 13, 2013
Pros: video game rentals
Cons: everything else
Gamestop Is A Very Tough Work Environment Only The Strong Survive. The Company Expects A Lot From THe Employees And Pay Very Little. Unless You Are An ASM Or Above The Benefits Suck. I Was An Shift SupervisorFor 5 Years The Only Good Thing I Got Out Of It Was When I Left And Went I Went To A Job In Banking An Soared With My Acquired Skills In Customer – more... Service And Sales. So The Moral Of Gamestop Is Do It for As Long As You Can And Then Move on. – less

This is based on a typical day at work !
Manager (Former Employee), Boston , Ma .December 21, 2012
Pros: talking to all the regular customers
Cons: very short breaks or no breaks
One reviewer mentioned Payroll , there is none ! Don't be mislead guys and gals , you is working solo for most of the day . The job is not hard , just a million things to do ! Shipments , trades , phones never stop ringing , changing the New Release walls , Best Sellers wall , titles on hand scans , category counts , did I mention that you are working – more... alone for all this ? I'm sorry , I forgot that you have to do customer service too , ringing registers , sell their PUR memberships , sell Reservations , skip protection , WebinStore , are we having fun yet ? One last thing , there's like a Conference Call everyday , way too much babysitting . I hope this helps you a little bit , I don't have any hard feelings GS , met a lot of wonderful people , made some friends , but I would never do it again ! – less

Tough work environment
Warehouse (Former Employee), GrapevineNovember 8, 2012
Pros: great hours and job security
Cons: management and a negative atmosphere
The people there can be fun to work with but have no problem stabbing you in the back if they feel dislike for you in anyway. Management is very poor within the warehouse and the air quality is horrible! The hours are great and as long as you just do your job and ignore the rest of the mess in the warehouse it's an ok place to work. If you're looking – more... for a stable paycheck this is the place for you. If you're looking for a career where you can love your job and have satisfaction from it look elsewhere. – less

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee), Bellevue, WAFebruary 1, 2012
Pros: marketing video games
Cons: payroll, scheduling, human resources
Good place to work just not a career. Sold millions in video game software and consoles. Operated one of the top earning stores in the company. Time to move on.

Not what you would expect
Assistant Manager (Current Employee), FloridaJanuary 20, 2012
Pros: employees can "check out" games (new or used).
Cons: selling subscriptions, mandatory pre-orders, lower than average pay.
World's largest video game retailer. However, for a company based on selling fun, it is a terrible place to work. Employees are required to work like salesman with goals that must be made but no commission or reward for them. The goals are inconsistent at best. The goals are based on the average of the company on any particular day so it is impossible – more... for all stores to do well on any given day. GameStop Corporate does not respect a healthy work/life balance. Employees are required to work most major holidays and long work days. – less
