Railcar Cleaner (Former Employee) –  Centreville, ILOctober 31, 2017
As a person who was hired close to the shut down of this site; I found that they were not properly trained. In addition, they had too many higher up coming through.
Pros
The payrate and the opportunity to get hours (at first)
Cons
Unappreciative of hard work and awards half a** work.

Sr Vice President, Human Resources (Current Employee) –  Vancouver, WAOctober 31, 2017
Business continues to lose money, Watco doesn't know how to run GBW. They got rid of all of the good senior leaders that knew business and actually wanted to make it better.

Management is very lost
Locomotive Engineer (Former Employee) –  HollidaysburghOctober 20, 2017
Good job but the management at hollidaysburgh is very week and are threatened by anyone who knows more than they do.They do not care about doing the job right they will talk like they do and the minute you dont do it there way they make a case out of it so they can get rid of you. They will acually play team members against each other. Very cutthroat enviroment look elsewhere.
Pros
Pay and schedule

Welder/Painter (Former Employee) –  IllinoisOctober 3, 2017
The place is a dump. Management cares nothing about employees. It's never enough for them no appreciation at all. When I first started there was a little appreciation for the employees but year by year it get worse and worse. The best thing to happen was the fact I got a new job.

One of the best welding shops I've had the privilege of working for
Quality Inspector (Current Employee) –  Topeka, KSJune 2, 2017
GBW being a production based establishment is a very fast paced, knuckle down employer. I've have had the privilege of becoming the QA inspector after only four years of welding, working and sweating with my teammates to continuously create a culture for Topeka GBW. I have never been more proud to say I don't have a "job" I have a career.
Pros
Willingness to train every employee at anything needed to create a better culture for the company
Cons
Due to customer scope changes. Work has slowed and it's frightening

dishonest managment across the board
repairman (Former Employee) –  Omaha, NEApril 9, 2017
Dishonest managment no issue with telling the whole crew blatant lies and the managment always applies ever increasing work load and or practices.I personally liked the pressure and learned alot about the actual fabrication side of the job.The pay was excellent. The south Omaha shop was a more stressful work enviroment than the west omaha shop. GBW has no issiue with letting its employees feel that its a great job and how they are commited to there employees then letting half the shop go in the next breath. The equipment is borderline scrap true saftey issiues with every forklift i saw and or used except the one or two the Material dept at the south omaha shop had

Mira loma CA Very poor management. No advancement.
Repairman (Former Employee) –  Mira Loma, CAMarch 4, 2017
company needs alot of work At least in mira loma. no communication, acknowledgement, or advancement even after going through training from corporate trainers. Supervisors have poor knowledge of the job and try to rush and cut corners. Few employees have no integrity or pride in their work. Over all no good work ethic from management. If you get to be a trainer you will only be training people to make the same amount of money (IF NOT MORE) Money than you. Good luck trying to move up if you're not part of the favorites.
Pros
Dental and vision plans are good. HEALTH INSURANCE IS GARBAGE

Semi good work enviroment. Very set on safety
Welder/ truck repairman (Former Employee) –  Cleburne, TXJanuary 26, 2017
Have been an employee for 14 years. The benefits are very good. The pay is competitive. Very adamant in the safety program. Communication could be better. Typical day is fast pace high production. What I have learned is to manage my time wisely. Management needs to have more communication as to future work. Work place culture is up and down with morale depending on management. Hardest part of the job would be advancement. Enjoyable part of the job is being a team leader and helping others to succeed in their job requirements.
Pros
competitive pay
Cons
lack of communication

Material Handler (Current Employee) –  Chehalis, WAJanuary 26, 2017
......Good hours poor management. False promise of moving up in company. It starts out as a great place to work and then falls short of the promises they give. Upside to the company it has recently gone union. Local 66 so hopefully they can help the employee's out some.

Not a very good place to work
Railcar Repairman (Current Employee) –  Cleburne, TXJanuary 16, 2017
No communication from upper management on future work or contracts, workers are usually treated like garbage by mid level management. Pathetic bonuses
Pros
Good health benefits
Cons
No actual vacation time or sick days, workers are treated like numbers not people, advancements are based on "previous leadership experience" not seniority or job knowledge.
