Material Handler (Current Employee), Shelby, NC – June 6, 2013
Pros: protective ppe
Cons: no extra benefits provided by the company
At GCA Services we assist a parent company meet their customer oriented goals in a daily work partnership that allows each company to do what it does best. A typical day at work starts in pre-shift where we are reminded of safety issues and given our daily assignments. I have learned that even when we have changes in personnel that management has a – more... course in place so that the next person to fill the position is not at a loss. My co-workers are hard working family people. The hardest part of the job is overcoming the fear of the unknown. The most enjoyable part of the job is to hand of a well stocked loom to the associate on the next shift while knowing that you have completed a productive day that will positively affect your employer's financial bottom line. – less

Not the best place to work
General Custodian (Former Employee), Pontiac, MI – April 14, 2013
Pros: co- workers
Cons: hours, management, no chance for advanceent
Not properly trained until about a month into working. Management was terrible and could not comply with any workers, and never so many people wanting to quit from one job ever.

Cons: they wing it so it makes for unstable future.
Unstable and very little opportunity to advance. No link to Human Resources for any matter, dishonest and inexperienced management.

Very busy and productive place
Housekeeper (Former Employee), Houston, Texas – April 9, 2013
Pros: good excercise and hour lunches, also most of the time some shops gave us free food.
Cons: not having available resources when you need a job done and constant unecessary complaints
To start the day off with some coffee to start the wake up hour, I check the restrooms, and the food court balcony to make sure they're clean as a whistle. Then I send a status report on the radio confirming the objective is complete. Rush hour comes with thousands of people and there is no time to waste, stand, wait, not even to take a breath. As we – more... sift through rush hour we take care of trash receptacles continually to ensure trash cans are empty and food court area is spotless. I learned that it is our job to make an impression on an eating facility and a comfortable place to relax. Management was outstanding towards customers and tenants listening to their concerns and needs. Co-workers always worked together and as a team, but sometimes not very responsive but the job always gets done. The hardest part was when a co- worker did not show up or when a co-worker goes on a lunch break because that's when assignments stack up on us, but with a little perseverance and diligence we maintain. I have say the most enjoyable part of the day is getting commended on a job well done feeling secure and ensured the job is complete and well done. – less

Clean, clean, clean
Janitor (Former Employee), Shelby Township, MI – March 19, 2013
Pros: holiday pay
Cons: boys locker room
I would start my day with cleaning the two classrooms that were part of my area after making sure my cart was supplied and ready to go. I would than head off to the PAC and clean that area specially the lobby since it was the area that was always used and move on into the theater area and clean in there. After finishing up with the PAC I would go to – more... the main gym and clean and do the boys locker room. After all that I would close down the pool and clean the area around the pool. Before leaving for the night it was my job to make sure the doors were all shut and locked by doing a walk around of the building. That there are janitors at schools have a lot of work to do and do not get recognized for all they do. Seems that the management did not communicate well with one another at times so knowing things became an issue other than that they worked with employees when needed. The events when other employees were not willing to help to get things done. Having the responsibilities. – less

This was the worst place ever.
Janitorial (Former Employee), Hudson, OH – February 21, 2013
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything
I did not enjoy this job at all. I worked for a GCA in Ohio, and I do not care if they see this. There were a lot of promises that were broken. For example, When I started, we were told that we had all this opportunity to move up, to get pay raises, ect. I never saw this at all! Raises were offered after 90 days, but there was no follow through. There – more... were two gentlemen that were promised raises, but every time they asked our regional manager, he ignored them. There have been a few people that have been there for a year and no raises were given (it says it in the GCA manual). As far as work, they expect you to bust your butt for that low of wages. It's a crime! People would take hour long lunch breaks. There was nothing enjoyable about this job. Our mamager tried to be our friends instead of a mamager. He is to lax and it really shows in the work. People are constantly complaining about things not getting done. You only get a week vacation, they want to see doctor's notes, funeral notes, and other notes if you miss a day. Healthcare there is nonexsistant. Basically, there is not opportunity (even though we were tld there was), and we were constantly lied to. DO NOT WORK HERE!!! – less

Just work
Receptionist (Former Employee), Austin, TX – February 11, 2013
Pros: free lunches when asked to stay over time
Cons: no insurance, no vacations
A typical day at work was answering incoming calls, and assisting clients with finding employment.

I learned that so many people are struggling and in need of employment.

As far as management I felt as if I was just a body. My concerns and questions seemed unimportant.

I got along well with my co-workers and really enjoyed working with them.

I would – more... get very sad when we could not help the clients in finding employment;when we did assist them I would leave work feeling very happy. – less

Floor Technician (Former Employee), Alcoa, TN – February 4, 2013
Pros: got to eat for free
Cons: constintly on the go
I would come in and stock the milk cooler and start cooking breakfest, then clean dishes, learned how to cook, me and my co-workers got along very well helps the the day go by better. The hardest part about my job was cooking in the heat, i enjoyed it when the kids would come up and say the food was great

dayporter (Former Employee), Rockford, IL – January 22, 2013
Pros: the hours were great 5am to1:30 pm
Cons: no healthcare and no chance of moving up in the job
Dealing with bus drivers, they had high expections of what they wanted and their needs. I learn how to deal with the people anf
d gave them what they wanted to hear, included learning to fix things on my own. We meaning talking to other employes we never got direction, just figure it out and do it. I had an evening co-worker we did not work together – more... to much but we did the oppisite of each other, to get something done I done it myself. Being a female doing a mans job I told that alot because of all the heavy lifting. I like the praise I got for never complaining and doing both a women and a mans job. – less

Driver (Former Employee), Dallas,tx – December 27, 2012
Pros: employment
Cons: racial discrimination
If you are an illegal hispanic immigrant this is definitely the company for you. The best paying positions are reserved for hispanics and some of them cannot even speak a lick of english. Some serious racial bias at this company at all levles.

Productive workplace.
Custodian (Current Employee), Grove, IL – December 25, 2012
Pros: nice and respectful employers
Cons: rude and ignorant higher ups
Work is decent, you have your set rooms to clean which is 8 rooms for me. It's not to bad cleaning the rooms and getting them done on time it's just the bosses that are rude to me and they become very ignorant in certain situations. I learned a couple different ways to clean faster but still make everything complete on time. My co-workers are nice and – more... respectful and always offer to help me if I need any assistance. Hardest part of the job is that if you make one mistake or accidentally forget to take out trash they get real close to you and always have an attitude with me and others. Honestly there is nothing enjoyable about this job except making the money to support my family. – less

Account Manager- Customer Service (Current Employee), Little Rock, AR – December 9, 2012
Pros: being able to freelance and be creative with implementing ideas
Cons: expensive healthcare and long work hours
A daily routine consists of interacting with employees and listening and helping with their concerns as well as the customer and monitoring job performances making sure everybody is performing up to standards. This also comes along with billing and various reports and clerical duties which involves a great deal of time management.
