A reasonably efficient legal claims processor
Associate (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAMarch 29, 2017
GCG has its problems, as all businesses do. They were also quite flexible when it came to work-life balance. The people actually working there were in the main friendly and hard working.

GCG is a wonderful company to work for, the only time that is really gets stressful is when there is a lot of work or when there is no work at all and you get sent home.

Keeps You Busy
Claims Control Clerk (Current Employee) –  Dublin, OHMarch 8, 2017
Overall is a great place to work. Keeps you busy most of the time, but when they're low on work it's likely you'll end up looking for a new job or a second job.

Lacks honesty and integrity
Senior project supervisor (Former Employee) –  Lake Success, NYFebruary 24, 2017
Worked at gcg for over 4 years initially on the dwh project. I have met some of the best people here and they are great. But management is horrible. They berate you when you find a mistake and try to blame someone for it except themselves. They are dishonest in claims processing and do favors for the clients like paying people who normally would not qualify.

The minions talk about people get yelled at. The only person that ever yelled at me was my parents.

Toxic work environment. Fellow workers become numb as they are struggling to survive on strong island where property taxes are highest in the country. People that leave here end up coming back because they fail in other companies or in life due to learning bad things here.

Coming to work is like being in an episode of shameless.

Beware all who enter here. Spooky things. And they will retaliate against you even with an antiretaliation policy in place.

Nada

Losing all your shame

Great people, management needs an uplift
Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Lake Success, NYJanuary 26, 2017
This is a great place to work mainly because you become part of a family. Some days can be slow, others extremely busy and long. The type of work an administrator holds all depends on what the client requires. The management needs an uplift. They are trying to create better work life balance for their employees so they are moving to a plus side.
Pros
New break room is great!
Cons
Needs to hire more managers and promote from within where it is deserved.

Wonderful atmosphere Management was great
Claims Control Clerk (Former Employee) –  Hammond, LAJanuary 6, 2017
On a daily basis was very calm and peaceful and enjoyed the people that I worked with and the management was great people to work for. The hardest part of the job was knowing that it was a temporary position.

Don't work for GCG
Contract Attorney (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WAJanuary 3, 2017
The management is terrible. There are always layoffs, and the company cannot figure out to effectively and economically keep itself going. The culture is lacking, and employees are constantly worried when they will be fired. The pay for attorneys is at the bottom end of the spectrum and the company contracts out most of their legal work to avoid paying medical benefits, etc. The atmosphere is not ideal, as you will work in a concrete warehouse-setting in small cubicles. The employee morale is the worst I have ever experienced; the supervisors frown on anyone critically thinking or having an opinion. Essentially, if you desire to be a trained monkey for the rest of your life, GCG is your best bet!
Pros
Sometimes there is free off-street parking close.
Cons
If you have all day, ask a current employee about the cons of working at GCG.

Good Pay - no chance for advancement
Intake Center Clerk/Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Dublin, OHNovember 13, 2016
Worked in both the intake center & the call center. Lot of variety of work for both. Pay was barely over minimum wage when I started, but by the time I left I was making a decent wage due to one particular case that new employees were brought in with a higher wage & the managers went to bat for the longer term employees saying they should make at least what the new employees were making.
Nearly every employee starts as an agency temp, if you do a great job & the work is there you can advance to a GCG temp (not full benefits). If you work there long enough you may become a full time GCG employee with full benefits.
Unfortunately they do not promote within for a lot of positions - if you are really good a your job they would rather keep you in it than advance you.

No Advancement

Fun place to work when Rich was there as the main man. Everyone was very professional and productive
Project supervisor (Former Employee) –  Dublin ohioNovember 4, 2016
I worked in the Dublin office 8 years ago. Some things never change. VERY poor management since Rich left and Patrick took over in 2007. Call center mgmt is pathetic. Manager tells supervisers not to help employees but to critique them only. Very immature and is STILL THERE.

Will fire you anytime
Translator (Former Employee) –  Dublin, OHMay 9, 2016
I would not recommend GCG for employment. They only hire people from temp agencies on a contract for 6 months. They do not train properly and fire people for any reason even if you are not late to work or miss any work. They promised me 6 month contract and fired me two weeks later because of low scores for a review of the 20 claims I did for them; I just started to get the hang of the job and they did not want me to get better they just fired me. I had quit my previous job to take this contract for a better pay and now I don't have a job because of this company. This company does not care about you or anyone. Stay away from this company and don't quit your job to take this job
Pros
free chips and nice managers
Cons
Mass firing any time. Poor training

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Dublin, OHApril 5, 2016
GCG is an ok place to work, job was fairly easy but, forget about job security, you never knew from one day to the next if you were going to be let go at a moments notice. Management would cuss out certain workers and use profanity like it was nothing, very unprofessional. The work hours were great, but no benefits or sick days. But overall it is not as bad as some companies that I have worked for.
Pros
Free coffee and tea.
Cons
Micro managed and mean management

Data Analyst III (Former Employee) –  Seattle, WADecember 21, 2015
Many interesting and challenging project with great people.
Training here is more of trial by disaster. I tried to encourage better training methods, but time and budget seem to make this a back burner item.

Claims Processor Data Entry Specialist (Former Employee) –  Hammond, LANovember 12, 2015
Great company to work for. Nice environment, benefits were good. The most enjoyable part of the job was you had to be a team worker everyone got alone. I learned how to Multi Task. Volunteered to work on numerous days when overtime was needed. Work directly with numerous individuals throughout the facility as well as administrator to ensure things were handled in an orderly and timely manner.

Good company, employment was only temporary.
Claims Processing Specialist (Former Employee) –  Hammond, LANovember 6, 2015
Good company, employment was only temporary for as long as the assignment lasted. You could relocate with company if willing to move out of state. Learned about insurance claims.
Pros
Many appreciation days and showed gratitude for what we were doing
Cons
Temporary employment, travel time from home to work. Cell phone problems.
