A chance to be more than just another employee
Lab Technician (Current Employee) – Satellite Office – March 8, 2018
Givf, specifically Fairfax Cryobank, is split into multiple sites across the USA. Each satellite site is extremely small, with roughly 4-6 employees. The main site has more of course. I've worked in the public sector and you are just another face. No one communicates outside of their department. At Fairfax Cryobank, you are encouraged to talk between sites and most everyone knows your name in the company.
Due to it being a smaller office, you are expected to be more than a button pusher, or a lab technician. The environment is best for well-rounded individuals who want a say in processing protocols and who have good problem-solving abilities. If that's not your cup of tea, then it may seem stressful at times. However, it's one of the best experiences you can have in a job, because you know that your opinion matters. Each site is very close-knit and everyone is pretty friendly.
Advancement is moderate. Prove yourself and you'll be rewarded. Slack off and don't expect a promotion. In a small satellite company, the slackers are easily identified. If you want to do the bare minimum amount of work, it's likely not the best for you. Time management skills are a must!
I've been employed with the Cryobank since I was hired and I don't look for other jobs anymore because I'm quite happy with my position and the people I work with.
