Clean place to work
Production Team Member (Current Employee), Zeeland, MI – June 7, 2013
GENTEX was voted as the best manufacturing company's in Michigan to work for and it truly is. The work there is clean, fast paced, very light duty, and the people you work with are fun, nice and are willing to help you out with your work if you are struggling. The pay rate is a little above average and the benefits and compensation are great. They offer – more... full medical and dental insurance and every employee gets quarterly bonuses. – less

A clean factory workplace.
Team Leader (Former Employee), Zeeland, MI – April 6, 2013
Working at Gentex was not by any means the greatest job around but it was also nothing to complain about. They keep their facilities clean and air controlled. The parts that they make are not hard or complicated like some factory jobs can be. You have to do you usual standing, lifting, and twisting. There is room for advancement but is hard to get your – more... foot in the door for a new position. It's a job for someone who just wants to go to work, do their job and collect a pay check. The pay is very reasonable to start. The people are friendly and easy to work with. They have many areas to work in. – less

Great company
Special Projects Leader (Former Employee), Zeeland, MI – March 11, 2013
 Produced circuit boards and showed initiative for improvement. Promoted into materials handling leader. Generated a color coding system so all material logistics could be easily tracked and reported.
 Assigned quality control projects to improve efficiency. Changed product handling so employees had less downtime from manufacturing floor to warehouse

Running a production line
Production Support Engineer (Current Employee), Zeeland, MI – February 24, 2013
Pros: quarterly bonuses, working environmen
Cons: long hours, no overtime pay
Ran day to day operations on a production line. Supervised 6 employees and worked to reduce downtime and increase quality. Worked closely with management and engineers to make improvements to the line. Hardest part of the job was the hours worked meant getting home late or getting up very early.

Cons: lacking proper office facilities for some employees.
No respect for skilled trades. Will hire talent to watch and copy then discard.

Not the same company it used to be!
PCB DESIGN MANAGER (Former Employee), Zeeland, MI – January 27, 2013
Pros: work / life balance
Cons: poor salary, poor performing stock options, politics, no growth path, poor leadership
I hired on at Gentex in 2008 and was ecstatic to find that companies like this still existed. Family values, unpretentious management, ownership mentality, etc. were all being preached as the core foundations. At the time, it was an exciting place to work with a healthy R&D department, and seamless integration into production engineering that helped – more... launch some of the most successful products the company ever produced.

Enter the "new management". I am not sure what the motivation behind the changes were, but they have brought nothing but politics, intimidation and all core values have been thrown out the door. In the last 2 years I worked there, myself and everyone else there spent more time watching their back and worrying about angering the wrong people for fear of losing their jobs. The atmosphere went to a complete loss of communication and therefore lack of creativity.

The management structure is in a complete state of flux with no growth path, training programs or mentorship. They promote young engineers into management with no prior management experience. It is sold to the CEO by lies and deceit so he will approve. If you succeed, you will survive. If you fail, you will not be given an alternative career path but rather removed. – less

Voted Top Place in Michigan to Work
Production Support Engineer - Group Leader (Current Employee), Zeeland, MI – January 8, 2013
Cons: low compensation
Gentex is a great company to work for. I have learned many things and gained much experience on concepts of topics such as Toyota Production System (TPS), standardized work, lean manufactering, cost-benefit Analysis, 5S, better ergonomics and quality management. All my co-workers are great people to work with and have a similiar hard-working and positive – more... attitude as I do and working with them are the most enjoyable part about the job. – less

Great Job, unfriendly people
production worker (Current Employee), Zeeland, MI – December 28, 2012
Pros: compensation, benefits, bonuses job security
Cons: people, management
A lot of how you like your job depends on what department you work in. Life in electronic assembly is generally pretty nice, while the sub assembly department is a nightmare. The benefits are some of the best you will ever get at any job. The people, however, are generally unfriendly, quick to pass judgement on you, and LOVE to talk bad about you behind – more... your back. (it will happen, GUARANTEED!) management has some communication issues, but otherwise, the work itself is fairly easy and not very stressful. – less

Program Engineer Review
Associate Program Engineer (Current Employee), Zeeland, MI – November 27, 2012
I recently had a tremendous opportunity to travel to Germany and assist our electrical engineering department with the development of our new camera systems. Upon my return, the company utilized my relationships with our German colleagues and promoted me to an Associate Program Engineer.

On a typical day, I associate with our office in Germany and – more... make sure they have product samples, engineering drawings and anything they might need to be the face of the company. I also formally launch new and existing product for the Volkswagen Group.

My manager is very open-minded and let's his team work with their customers as they please - as long as it lines up with company goals. My co-workers are the same; great to work with.

My choice for searching is two-fold. First, I enjoy managing people. I'm very passionate about it and managing a project just is not the same. The second is our compensation. We are paid well below market value.

The company is great and I enjoy it greatly. – less

Well run company
Lead Quality Engineer (Former Employee), Rancho Cucamonga, CA – November 4, 2012
Pros: good work place
Cons: horrible in the summer heat!
This company sub is run by the PA home team. However they still have good autonomy and a good but untrained workforce. As a for instance when asked why they do not use stop watches (spec requirement) to check for air leaks in oxy hoses the answer is "I know how long ten seconds is".
Plant GM runs the roost but he is still fair and quality minded.

Gentex Corporation, A Formerly Good Company
Product Engineer (Current Employee), Zeeland, MI – October 23, 2012
Pros: the good people, free coffee & soda
Cons: unqualified upper & mid management, healthcare, work environment
Do not confuse the new Gentex with the old Gentex, it left when the Fogg rolled into power. The fog may be gone but the politicans who kissed up are still in power, the CEO seems to be out of touch with the reality.

I loved this company when I started but they have steadly declined promoting arrogant, political, and sometimes incompetent managment. – more... So "financial" difficulties, ROI issues, not profitabilty, have set in due to the number of gaffs by management. They took their eye off the ball and wallowed in their own greatness, putting all the eggs in one product basket, riding existing products without improving or re-developing them, over-reaching their capabilities, ignoring the customer needs, building uneeded recurring costs into products, and introducing quality issues because they don't understand the function.

Now for the last 6 months they have been letting all of the good experienced people go, all people who have higher wages, vacation, and stock options, read that for what it is. All of this violates at least 2 if not 3 of the fabled Gentex Foundations. Anyone with 8+ years of experience can expect a pink slip. They are the ones paying for it rather than those who are the root cause.

I am looking for a new job. – less

Horrific Management
Salaried Employee (Former Employee), Rancho Cucamonga, CA – October 16, 2012
Pros: 9-80 work week if you aren't asked to work on your day off.
Cons: to numerous to mention just avoid this place like the black plague.
The executive management is very inexperienced in business making numerous bad decisions costing 100's of thousands and in some cases millions. You are expected to help compensate for this lack by working 11-12 hour days as standard. Many long term employees and their are very few of them left have racked up hundred of hours in vacation pay. This is – more... due to management not allowing them and the employee paranoid about taking any in fear of being fired. Retaliation is the name of the game and throwing people under the bus is an everyday occurance. The environment is very hostile and unprofessional. The co-workers are all paranoid so a lot of back-stabbing goes on. The most joy you would get from the job is getting a paycheck and knowing you were underpaid. – less
