Production Team Member (Current Employee) – State street – April 4, 2016
Easy work for okay pay and good benefits. Hard to move up. You have to know the right people and even then it can still be blocked for no real reason. There's positions that share or do allot of the same things as a higher paying one that don't get payed nearly as much and the title for it isn't as meaningful to your resume as it falls under what job title every line operator falls under. Allot of internal politics that people higher up don't share with people under them making allot of the process confusing. When it's busy it can be 6 day mandatory weeks for months on end. Doesn't feel that rewarding for being good at your job or taking on more responsibilities. I have had nearly all positive experiences with managers I worked for. They have improved getting new people benefits while ignoring people that have been here for a while, probably due to turn out.
Healthcare, Bonuses and other benefits.
Mostly dead end. Lower end pay compared to some others in the area.
Super company, great culture, need competitive salary
Program Engineer (Former Employee) – Zeeland, MI – April 4, 2016
This is a great place to work for. The company culture is the thing people dream of. People care about one another. When problems come up, there is no finger pointing or blame tossing. There is only a togetherness to solve the problem as a team.
They invest much into their employees and they get it back in return.
The only glaring issue is that the compensation is not up to par by any stretch. They are losing good people due to this. It's unfortunate to see. I want this company to succeed.
Big Company with awesome benefits, but sometimes lose feeling of having any value due to such large numbers.
Final Assembly (Former Employee) – Zeeland, MI – February 1, 2016
Other than the hours, mass amounts of required overtime, and lack of "team" feeling from management, it was an awesome place to work for. There wasn't much room for growth within the company unless you had a degree, but the company offered to pay for schooling as part of your benefits. The pay and benefits were awesome and being able to listen to your own music all day definitely made for a good time. It was very clean and climate controlled also which was great.
Awesome pay, and benefits
lots of mandatory overtime, hard to move to first shift
Great workplace, Let you have fun, Management is fair and don't slave drive you, Great Benefits plus quarterly bonuses
Production Team Member (Former Employee) – Zeeland, MI – November 15, 2015
Well established automotive parts company that won't go anywhere. Great atmosphere, clean work areas, supervisors won't belittle you or treat you poorly and always listen to input or issues. Great benefits-Medical, Dental, Vision + free prescription safety glasses and they provide up to $150 for work boots every year. Good quarterly bonuses.
Production Worker (Current Employee) – Zeeland, MI – March 20, 2016
Ive been working there now for about 6 months and there are a few things that annoy me. One is there BS no tolerance policy for attendance I get its important to be there but when your in the ER you don't need someone telling you hey your that much closer to being fired. Secondly the team leads are great but the ones under them just don't care the hours are always long and you can't have a life. You have to center your entire life around this place....in all honety I don't recommend this place unless you like ALOT of mandatory overtime and work with people who bearly work at all and just talk all day and walk around. Those are only some of the cons the pros to this place are ok pay the bonuses are good other then that not a career job but that's really my opinion
Good pay good bonus
ALOT of madatory overtime, no sick days, managment
Assembly, Quality Control, and Runner (Former Employee) – Zeeland, MI – September 25, 2015
I worked as a line assembler. It never got boring because we rotated every 2 hours to a different station. The hours were sometimes long, but the money was worth it. A lot of the managers were great, some not so great. It was my first factory job, and for a first it was great. I enjoyed what I did, the hardest part was probably working 60 hours a week.
Production (Former Employee) – Holland, MI – September 16, 2015
great benefits but lots of mandatory O/T. if you work second shift then gentex is your life. management is ok lots of kids fresh out of college are given management positions. and depending on your area the people can either be great or just all around immature.
Lean Leader/ Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) – PA – August 4, 2015
There is an extreme disconnect between managers and employees. Improvements seldom are accomplished due to the "free for all" nature of the company. If you are looking for a steady job, with average compensation then this is the place for you. If you are looking for a career opportunity, you may want to reconsider.
production operator (Former Employee) – Zeeland, MI – July 21, 2015
I enjoyed working at Gentex, it is a great company to work for. They do keep you very busy with all the overtime hours, and compensate you with a bonus every quarter and great health benefits. the hardest part of the job is having the job and also trying to have a life.
paid vacations, bonus, health insurance, paid holidays
Element Operator (Current Employee) – Zeeland, MI – October 20, 2015
There's a lot that could be said about Gentex. From the outside it's a nice company. Good insurance, decent pay for mindless work, well known bonuses... On the inside it's extremely boring work, climate control is there but doesn't reach most places, management is disappointing to say the least. The biggest thing that bothers me as an employee is that unless you have a degree you're treated as more of a tool than an employee. Parking is limited and has been overlooked. I'm not sure if it's the same in our other buildings and departments.
Free soda, big bonuses
short brakes, limited parking, limited job development for under-educated employees
Laser Ablation Team Leader (Current Employee) – 58 Riley Zeeland, MI – April 12, 2016
Overall I believe that Gentex is a great place to work based on their willingness to help their employees prosper and thrive. They have excellent benefits as well. However, you are most likely to get passed over for a promotion for the boss' friend. You may be more qualified for a given job/task but will be overlooked if the boss has a "buddy" in the department who is under qualified.
Machine operator / Runner / Quality (Former Employee) – Zeeland, MI – May 27, 2016
The environment is very clean. The pay is reasonable. The coworkers are helpful. There is no more than 10lbs of lifting. The have central air/heat as well as free drinks. comfortable seat in the break room.
Production Support Team Leader (Current Employee) – Holland, MI – October 14, 2015
Out of the 10 years I have worked for this company, the first 5 were probably the best. It is a clean environment and climate controlled (which is great in the summer!) but it seems over the past few years the management has been tanking. Still a good place to work with room to grow (if you know the right people) and would recommend working here. Though they are not guaranteed, there was only one time out of my 10 years we did not receive a quarterly bonus.
Assembly (Former Employee) – Zeeland, MI – April 22, 2015
This is a place that treats it's employees well for most of the time. They sometimes forget the employees aren't robots with no life outside the company and work you hard with little care what happens to you.
Team Member (Current Employee) – Holland, MI – July 8, 2015
It was very productive while allowing a lot of time to have fun with co-workers or management. I learned a lot about making mirrors and repairing machines, as well as quality importance. The hardest part was dealing with trainees/trainers who were being lazy and slowing the line down. Trainers often would leave new employees alone way before they're suppose to and so I would of to do almost twice the work at the same speed. Even with that though the management was pretty easy to get a long with as long as you do your job well which is also the most enjoyable because that meant talking with co-workers or listening to music was okay.
