Gentex is a well established company with many job advancement opportunities.
Gentex Line Assembly/TWI (Current Employee) –  Holland, MIMay 12, 2017
Thousands of mirrors are made everyday at Gentex. It is a very easy job to learn and to do on a daily basis. They hire very well accomplished leaders to run the smaller tasks in the various buildings. It is a easy job to advance in and Gentex has a tuition reimbursement program to help people who want to advance. They keep their buildings very clean on the inside and the outside. Overall it is a awesome company to work for.
Pros
Health insurance, including dental and vision, clean work environment, nice break room, incredible training program for new people
Cons
A con to working at Gentex is the lack of hours many times.

Energetic and vibrant
Program Buyer (Current Employee) –  Rancho Cucamonga, CAMay 9, 2017
The company has a diverse group of energetic people, striving for the same end goal of producing high quality product for US and international Customer. It's busy from the start of each day with countless deadlines and schedules to meet. And yet it is also cyclical. Learned a great deal of patience in order to maintain sanity during the onset, duration and completion of customer contracts. Product lead times flex, meaning a customer can pull-in orders which creates high stress levels in order to maintain new schedules. R&D programs have potential to have an extended life but once approved for production the longevity is, for the most part, extensive. The life support product produced gives an employee the job satisfaction and appreciation for those that use it. The culture is relaxed yet you are expected to perform. The hardest part, in my role, is keeping management to realize procured product lead time and flow that down through our production cycle. Summer sees, softball league memberships form with employees, basketball is enjoyed after hours by small groups of employees on a weekly basis - unless there is extensive overtime.
Pros
9/80 work week; 3 miles from home - cycle commute
Cons
Expensive healthcare program, no pension

Fast-paced Defense Industry Employer
Department Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Simpson, PAMay 2, 2017
Typical day at work included very fast-paced environment and actively participated in team projects. Learned very helpful management techniques and how to utilize all my resources to be successful. Respect is earned, not given.Upper management is top heavy; not knowledgeable of product line and manufacturing process. Mostly, they never visited manufacturing floor; only once a year at Christmas. Hardest part of the job was managing my workforce and all different personalities. Most enjoyable part of the job was making my team as successful as it was, and meeting and working with my peers and employees.
Pros
meeting vendors, traveling to satellite sites
Cons
poor wage increases

Production Support Engineer - Electrical Assembly (Former Employee) –  Zeeland, MIApril 26, 2017
This was very taxing on the body and mind. Management was not supportive of personal needs and sought people out to make their jobs harder. The team environment was great and everyone worked well together, outside of management watching like a hawk. It was very cutthroat and if you sneezed wrong you were disciplined.

Good Job, Bad Management
Senior Line Operator (Former Employee) –  Zeeland, MIApril 14, 2017
8 hour workdays, first shift is basically impossible to get onto unless you've been there for 5+ years. Mostly 5 day work weeks, could be less if something breaks, could be 7 days if not enough parts go out. Management never stays for more then 6 months. Very inconsistent, and makes it near impossible to gain a rapport with them in order to move up. A LOT of favoritism.
Pros
Free Pop

Line Runner/Material Handler (Former Employee) –  Holland, MIApril 11, 2017
A very fast paced job that started with being super understaffed. We were running lines with 3 people when other shifts had 5-6. Pay was nice, the turnover of employees wasn't. Management team didn't really see to grasp the policies and wouldn't always be on the same team as there other managers; which made for an inconsistent experience. Weren't enough people trained in my fielding leading me to do a job other shifts did 2-3 days a week i would do 5-6. Was rather exhausting especially when working a second job. Overall 3rd shift wasn't the best, but I've heard great things about the other shifts and also know that after a lot of changes in polices things sound to be doing more better and more smoothly according to past coworkers.
Pros
Good compensation
Cons
Long days, repetitive shifts

Seamstress (Former Employee) –  Boston, MAMarch 25, 2017
1) Work/life balance. What balance? All those perks and benefits are an illusion. They keep you at work and they help you to be more productive. I've never met anybody who actually time off on weekends or on vacations. You may not hear management say, "You have to work on weekends/vacations" but, they set the culture by doing so - and it inevitably trickles down.

The company is great and great to their employees. But the management on certain shifts were completely different and were more like dictators than anything. Also maintenance department kind of screwed me and strung me along.

Sweat shop, like piece work environment , all about numbers
Manufacturing Technician (Current Employee) –  Dudley, MAFebruary 22, 2017
They don't care about their employeees it's all about making numbers .. breaks r too short u don't have time to eat never mind use the restrooms . Have to cover breaks so u can't even relax with ur coworkers.
Very clicky, the leads and managers favor their friends and dis everyone else as far as good/bad jobs.
Very dirty and dusty , everyone coughing and blowing their noses all day.
They need to be nicer to employees, turn around is 50%, they can't keep new hires, constantly loosing people, always a sign outside they are hiring????
They run it like an old school factory , time to upgrade and get with the times smh
Pros
Work schedule
Cons
Short breaks, like piece work, very dirty
