I loved this working for and with this company.
Facility Investigator (Former Employee), Moore Haven, FL – February 5, 2013
Pros: professional, integrity, loyalty, and they respected their staff.
Cons: we did not get a raise for 3 years in a row, but other than that, they were great.
I loved working for GEO. I began as an officer and I promoted through the ranks to sergeant, lieutenant, captain, administrative captain, and then to prison investigator. The staff were friendly and if you were a hard worker, knew your job, could problem solve, and was professional in that you did, they saw your potential and supported you. I never – more... left this company, unfortunately, Corrections Corporation took over the prison I was working at after 6 years. – less

Medical Records Secretary (Former Employee), Bronte, TX – January 3, 2013
Pros: freedom to organize and create!
Cons: non-compliant inmates
Assist the nurses in daily activities, create spreadsheets and filing system. Monthly reports were completed and turned in every month.
Organize and clean daily.
The Head-Nurse was very supportive and easy to work for.
Great Co-Workers.
The hardest part of the job was dealing with inmates that were non-compliant.
The most enjoyable part of my job was – more... the freedom to create and manage all filing systems - creating an organized environment. – less

Human Resource Assistant (Former Employee), Holly Springs, MS. – September 15, 2012
Pros: i was constantly learning something new.

Great place to work and learn something everday. Always think safety first!
Mailroom Supervisor (Former Employee), Holly Springs,MS – September 5, 2012
Pros: learing the many task over the 11 years at geo/marshall county correctional facility
Cons: the lost of the contract with geo
I performed alot of jobs during my 11 years at Geo/Marshall County Correctional Faclity. I started at Geo in 2001 as a correction officers. I supervised the inmates in the houseing units. Then I went to central control where you perform a lot of duties as one time. You have to be multi task to work in this area. I would have to answer calls, monitor – more... counts, inmates movement, keep a daily log with all activites that went on throughout the day. This probably was my favorite job because it keep you busy and central control was the heart of the faclity. Central control plays a major roll in correction and is important. I worked in receptionist where you answer multi-phones lines, creating and maintaining spreadsheets. Last I worked in the mailroom were I was the Mailroom supervisor. I supervised one other person in the mailroom room, the legal assistance clerk and receptionist. In the mailroom my duties was not only supervising but I also worked just as hard as my clerk. We monitored all facility and inmates mail. Inmates mail both outgoing/incoming mail had to be inspected. I handled all application of varied complex work and methods and procedures and all problems and special request that occured in my area. I enjoyed my job because over these years I learned more than my job, I had the chance to cross train in others areas such as account clerk, training officer clerk, records, visitation, legal clerk, Warden Sectary etc.I enjoyed the people at Marshall County all my co-workers. – less

Not for me
Educator (Former Employee), Meridian, MS – August 1, 2012
Pros: while the pay wasn't the best, it did allow me to eat and live indoors.
Cons: the workplace itself.
Apparently, GEO is not as good as they would lead you to believe they are, since they have been asked to leave MS as well as some other states. They put the prison where I worked on lockdown, and no students could come to class...even those who were court ordered to attend. Instead, they had the education department working in the kitchen/dining area. – more... Prior to that, they had non-security working in security positions, without benefit of security training. They were fined over 100K for workplace violations...which they did nothing to correct (apparently, they knew they were leaving, so..who cares?)
The last few weeks they were in charge, they had numerous people from Corporate walking around, talking on their cell phones, and trying to look important (failing miserably)...barking orders to the "underlings"...instead of rolling their crisply ironed sleeves up and helping us get the job done.

A typical day at work was chaos. We were supposed to be able to get our students out to teach; security...and some of the deputy wardens...couldn't care less, and made it obvious they did not want the offenders educated. It was like pulling hen's teeth to get students out and into class.

Management: What management? In the 3+ years I worked there, there were at least five wardens. The only one that was doing a good job and trying to make the place run like it should...lasted only a few months...then, back to the regular day-to-day grind.

Most all of my co-workers were good people...and just as sick of the way things were run...and trying to get away.

The hardest part of the job was trying to do your job in the way you should do it; it always was fighting an up hill battle.

The most enjoyable? Five O'Clock Friday...the weekend is here!! – less

With regard to the Las Vegas office, this company is in dire need of corporate intervention.
Security Manager (Former Employee), Las Vegas Community Correctional Center – July 6, 2012
Pros: relatively good pay given the current economic state of our country.
Cons: poor management, office direction and training for staff. hostile work environment
The Las Vegas Community Correctional Center office of Geo Care is in dire straights and in need of corporate intervention. The monitor staff, although hard working, is in need of training, guidance and above all else, support. They are over-worked, and although the backbone of the facility; they are consistently brow-beat by the other operational teams – more... of the unit. Team members are allowed to make denigrating and derogatory comments with regard to other employees and this form of "hostile work environment" is allowed to run rampant within the organizations LVCCC office. They are short staffed as a result of management apathy and their internal facility policies are non-existent as is an operational manual specific to that facility and its needs. The case worker team although in the process of re-structuring, has been for years without direction, and the resident files show either negligect or apathy with regard to chronological updates and IPP planning. This in plain language, is the most unprofessional operation I have ever personally been witness too. – less

Interesting work place
Case Manager (Current Employee), California – June 1, 2012
Pros: on-call bonus and offices in practicly every state
Cons: favoritism, no breaks, office politics
There are many issues with the company. The company itself is very successful and has offices throughout the United States but none of the success trickles down to the employees. Upper management reaps all of the benefits. The yearly compensation does not nearly meet the national average for the region and they do not consider locality wage adjustment. – more... The company has a great culture on paper but office politics tell a different story. There is corruption, favoritism, and plenty of unethical behavior. The open door policy exists but most issues are never addressed. The local managers lack professionalism which creates an extremely stressful and hostile work environment. The work is very repetitive and allows for zero growth. The saying goes "too many chiefs and not enough indians," as everyone is looking to get in good with the boss. There is no team work and the manager will always side with the wrong side. No support whatsover. Overall, it is a good foot in the door for something better. – less
