Stress-filled, under paid and regulation heavy.
Special Education Teacher-Case Manager (Former Employee) –  Gilbert, AZAugust 30, 2017
Arizona under-funds education and individual teachers devote their souls to students. This district has a reputation for many financial bungles that impact classroom resources. To cost cut, classroom sizes were increased and standards continue to rise. This school board is less contentious than in the last 10 years.

Food service Manager/asst manager (Former Employee) –  GilbertJuly 5, 2017
You always stay busy so the day goes by fast. I went from a Food service worker to an asst. Manager in 3 months. They really pay attention to those who work hard.

Elementary Strings Teacher (Current Employee) –  Gilbert, AZMay 26, 2017
I have been with this school district for a long time, and have seen many changes. It is an excellent school district, where the teachers genuinely care whether or not the students do well. I am leaving due to burnout, not necessarily at the district level, but also at the state and federal level. There seems to be a war on public education lately, and it is tiring and demoralizing to have to defend over and over something that really is a good thing. Frankly the pay is not worth it any more.
Pros
supportive staff
Cons
low pay, long hours

It's been many years since I worked for the district. During my tenure with the schools the environment was positive, real world and had the welfare of students at the heart
Pros
Work environment . Lack of administrative/employee "delineation"
Cons
Typical low public school pay

The district is trying to look better, not be better
High School Math Teacher (Current Employee) –  Gilbert, AZMay 5, 2017
Scores, scores, scores! It is no longer about nurturing or fostering the growth of a student. It’s about looking good on paper. For 9th through 12th grade teachers of core classes, the expectations put on each teacher to get the kids to perform well on state tests has become unreasonable. Continue with everything you are doing, but now also do this, and by the way, do it all better. Gilbert Public Schools used to be a wonderful place to work, but it is going in the wrong direction right now.
Pros
The kids

Asked to do more with less

The people who work here are great but the pay is ridiculous for what they expect of you. I would not recommend working here if you would like to advance yourself in the field while staying at the same company.

6th GRADE TEACHER (Former Employee) –  Gilbert, AZApril 10, 2017
Enjoyed position with GPS but not due to district itself. Underpaid like anywhere else in Arizona when it comes to teaching. Administration seemed to have own agenda and did not seem to mirror that of staff.
Cons
pay

Teacher (Current Employee) –  TeacherApril 5, 2017
This is the greatest elementary school I have been privy to work for. The staff is all friendly, and all the teachers are highly qualified. The teacher love what they do and they love their students. The school goes above and beyond to make the elementary experience amazing.

7th grade teacher (Current Employee) –  Gilbert, AZFebruary 17, 2017
8hr/5 days a week, no weekends, no holidays, summers off
You will spend your days going to bus duty, parent meetings, staff meetings, building lesson plans, creating assignments and assessments and of course teaching.
Strong group of individuals that are generally pleasant to work with. The hardest part is discipline when dealing with an unruly student. The best part of the job is the reward of working with students and only working 9 months out of the year.
