Scheduling meetings, processing purchase request for consultants, reviewing budget, making travel arrangements, attending meetings, answer phones. Preparing documents to get uploaded for Promotional Review Committee meetings which are meetings to review and discuss approval/rejection of marketing advertisements.

Company runs very lean and IT management is not mature to operate under lean workload. No employee reward, management is disconnected with individual contributors.

Extremely fast paced, but very productive

Fast paced barely scratches the surface. Gilead runs a lean ship, but still manages to deliver highly valuable and direct results. Work/life balances could be better, but the rewards make up for the shortcomings.

A typical day consisted of reviewing A/P metrics and analyzing the data in how to better present it to the various business units in order to reach our goal of on time payment. Answered emails, phone calls. Worked with the accounting team on various projects. Bank statements, manual payments, refund checks.

Fun place... but as a contracted employee no benefits really, and no paid holidays or paid time off.

Depending on the department you contract with, you could have either erratic 80 hour workweeks or just a straight 40 hours.
It was a great company to work for as far as little perks... plenty of on site parking, security on site, ping pong table, self service cafe if you forgot lunch, breakfast once a month, bagel day twice a month, and free fresh fruit once a month. All in all a great company to work for, if you can make it past the contractor glass ceiling lol.
Pros
Lots of lunch meetings, so occasional free food, and the above mentioned free food.
Cons
Can be difficult to get hired as a permanent employee.

Not the best place to work if you have children

One of the positive attributes about this company is the stock performance. The stock has been going up for a while and the company is solid financially. As far as career advancement, you have limited options. The company rarely hires/promotes from within and tends to hire external people. Once you are in, you have to leave to advance your career. A lot of people leave Gilead after 3-4 years, they feel stuck. The culture is harsh - swim or sink. That said, most people are friendly, polite and easy to work with.
Pros
Good stock performance over time, free bagel on Wedenesday and Peets coffee all day!
Cons
Limited career advancement, low job titles for the job, poor work/life balance

My experience with the company.

As maintenance troubleshooting and repair is a typical day at work. Learned many new skills almost everyday in the technical world. Management and co-workers are supportive help carry on the operations to properly operate per required. The company operates 24hrs., and the most complicate parts are to retrieve assist resources on none business working days/hours. Situations were always resolved with proper corrective actions and teamwork. Complete tasks in a timely manner with the highest yield goals with the team or co-workers is very rewarding and make the working place so enjoyable.
Pros
Bonus, gift certificates, and Christmas Party.
Cons
Maintenance rotate the 24hrs a day seven days a week on call.

This was the best paid job I have had, but the worst working conditions I have ever experienced.

The physical demands were great. I regularly ran 30 plate assays twice a week in addition to developing other assays, carrying cell lines, generating viral stocks, conducting additional experiments, completing assigned lab duties of stocking the tissue culture rooms, tracking plasmids in the data base, and analyzing data for presentations.

Management was not helpful in identifying priorities in order to stream-line work load. According to management, everything is a priority.

Co-workers are also over loaded and repetitive stress injuries are common, and commonly go unreported for fear of reprimand from management.
